My litter is almost 4 weeks old, had them to the vet for the first worming at 2 weeks. Mom has been cleaning them along with my help but about 3 days after worming the pups she started coming down with diarhea, really bad, like 6-7 times daily. I have had her to the vet twice ,the first time he did a fecal test and found round worms most likely gotten from cleaning the pups. He gave me two doses of worming pills to give 2 weeks apart and an antibiotic (Amoxicillin) to help firm her up. Well after 4 days of no improvement I took her back 2 days ago and he gave me another med (Flezyl ?) to stop the runs. Coming on 3 days now AND STILL no improvement. At this point I am at a loss . I have tried the old stand by,Pumpkin and even it does not stop her up. I can't find a reasonable explanation. The vet said that this can be expected as she cleans her pups and they were wormed she ingested them. But still shouldn't this have passed already? Any breeders have any ideas or what the heck I can do to help her, she is miserable and most times I can get her outside but when I can't What A Mess.
Also
Mom despite it all seems to be doing well and eats regularly with no issue, I keep freash water for her . I have noted that she has less milk now so I have supplemented by feeding the pups a rice cereal and formula mush w/yougurt. They don't seem affected by the problem with her.
Diarrhea...
I guess the puppies are still nursing, so the mother has to be fed rich, frequent meals. Hopefully the worms are gone now, so I would start weaning these puppies, and get the mom on rice and boiled chicken or boiled hamburger. Also give her some yogurt or a probiotic. Good luck!
wrong med stated
It wasn't Flexyl he gave ,it was Endosorb
