New Puppies

Hi everyone! I am new to this site but I have a question.  I will be getting two english bulldog puppies in August.  I am considering two males.  Is this a good or bad idea?  They will be from different litters but they will be two weeks apart in age..  I really need to decide should it be girl and boy or two boys. HELP!

I have three boys..

two are litter mates and came together and one is a year younger. Two are intact, but as long as you show them that you are alpha and pack leader I think two boys are great together. The only problem I have is with one of the older ones and the younger one. The older one, Sebastian, is def the alpha among the bullies and Remy, the baby is trying to assert his teenage machismo so once in awhile I get a little tussle over a toy or who gets to be on my lap.

I think since you are bringing them home together, you shouldn't have a problem. The two that I brought home together get along great all the time. In fact, right now Oliver is washing Sebastian's face for him while laying on the floor.

Most often recommended

if you are getting 2 puppies to have 1 of each sex.  But I have always had to males at home successfully and IMO 2 males are far easier in getting along then 2 females.  I have always had one of the males neutered because I'm usually showing one and they have to be unaltered to show.  If you have 2 males both with strong personalities you can have problems, especially if you have an unalterd female in the pack.

Yes you can control and assert your position but if your 2 males ever fight and I mean a fight (not a tussle over a toy) then you will have 2 dogs that wioll hate each other for life.  And trying to keep dogs separated in a household is extremely stressful.

So if you decide on 2 males I would encourage you to neuter them.  In the long run you will have a very happy household.

Curious why you are getting 2 puppies at once?  I just saw a good show by that Victoria Stillwell on 2 puppies together and thier anxiet issues.  If you do decide on 2 make sure you teach them how to be independent of each other.  They should learn it is OK to be alone with out the other, so you don't end up with separation anxiety issues.  I never recommend people get 2 puppies at once.  I personally like them about 2 years apart.

I think it's a good ideal

There are many bulldoger that has more if the same sex. You shouldn't have any problems.  Congrats for becoming a bulldoger. You will find BDW the best place to be for any question you have with  them.  Welcome to bulldog world.

2 at once!

Hi, we were initially thinking of getting 2 puppies at once as well, but financially didn't think it was wise in our situation right now.  We weren't sure what to expect with our first bully as they are notoriously expensive when it comes to vet visits if any issues did arise.

I'm not quite sure how things would be going with 2.  We've had Kaida for 2 weeks and she's a handful on her own.  We love her to pieces though.

Good luck whichever sex you choose.

You're in for a real treat with the pups :)
