Where are you located? I have been buying from a blue ridge beef distributor near me. The best person you could talk to on here is Judy Wilson who has been feeding raw for a very long time and also has SB dogs. Maybe you could send her a message in case she doesn't see this post.

Ya thats very frustrating. Have you checked for any local co-ops in your area? The meats are usually more affordable than what is in the grocery store. I would definatly try to talk to Judy about this since she feeds a raw diet to her SB dogs she could help you get started. She is the one who talked me through it as well. Hope it works out!

you'd think we could find at least one, but NOPE! I even belong to a yahoo group that TRIES to find meat sources, and not a single one that is close enough to consistanly buy from.
I won't buy meat and have it shipped. For me personally it makes no sense whatsoever to spend a few $$ less per pound on the meat, then have to have it shipped. Which usually means it's frozen.
I'll spend the same total amount on meat I can find at Costco and cut it up and freeze it myself.
I am tempted though to mail order some rabbit. I don't buy the frozen grinds from raw sites either, mostly personal preference. I like to KNOW what my dog is eating.

It seems as if there should be
some good co-ops in your area.
I'm in Mississippi, and there is no provider of afordable food for raw feeding in my area.
Hope you are able to find some.
we don't have any either Carol

you won't have to grind it all
just the bones if you are nervous to feed bone.
I don't know anything about spina bifida dogs, Judy Wilson is definitely the one to ask.
Do they have different nutritional requirtements?
There are a few that do grind, Deb is one and I think Carol used to.
Start with with basics of a raw diet- 80% meat, 10% bone, 10% secreting organ, (with 5% of secreting organ being beef/calf liver)
Chickens are VERY boney critters- a whole chicken is about 40% bone, so you'd have to add a lot of boneless meat.
You could either add the boneless meat and grind with the whole chicken, or just add cut up boneless meat to the meals.
Ask as many questions as you need to!
