Posting here because I know this board is frequented more often than the medical board. We are leaving on a trip tomorrow with our bullies. Our male has developed very soft stools. He's had 4 in the past 24 hours. Other than the stools he is acting and eating perfectly fine. I would like to start him on the hamburger and rice diet mentioned so often but I don't know how much of each to feed him. He's 6 years old and usually eats 3 cups of kibble daily. Please help us! Any and all suggestions welcomed! Thank you.

HI
Not sure about the quantity but my vet always said way more rice and meat in the mix. Also, try him on a spoonful of canned plain pumpkin (NOT pumpkin pie mix). Pumpkin is a "miracle drug" when it comes to either loose or hard poop!
Hi
Thank you for your quick response. As soon as the husband gets home I'll be on my way to the store. Afraid to leave Bubba home alone. He pooped in the house during the night and that hasn't happened since he was a puppy. If this doesn't work, then the trip will be postponed. Mother-in-law won't be happy but my bullies come first!

I hear ya
I've had to cancel more than one social engagement due to my bully. Wouldn't have it any other way though!
Maybe
it's over eating?
Or stress....these Bulldogs seem pretty in-tune to what going on in the family. Mine even come tell on each other when one is being bad.
I know nothing about rice and hamburger diet, but I do know some folks rinse their hamburger after cooking it, to take out some grease. [for humans]
Beef is really rich and my boys still only get a little and they have been eating raw for months. Too much gives Brother the runs.
Good luck and props for taking the dogs with you instead of the kennel.

Mean people still suck
Boiled chicken and rice might be easier on his stomach
I feed probably 1/2 to 3/4 of the normal amount of food with rice being the major ingredient. You're trying to give his system a break without the dog starving. You may also want to add a little Kaopectate. Until his system settles down, no treats.
Good luck and have fun
