Naughty Brewer

So I am at a loss right now. Brewer used to be such a good boy. I could leave him out of his crate when we left and never had to worry about anything. Well now hes chewing everything so we started crating him again which I think is making him mad at me. He has never had an accident in his crate. Well i come home today after only being gone for 3 hours and he peed in his crate. I thought maybe it was my fault leaving him to long or something. So i take his blanket out, put in a new one and take him outside. He does his business outside, so we come back inside and he walks to his crate and pees on it. He hasnt had any accidents in the house for at least 4 months. Remind you, he is only 7 months old. So if anyone has any suggestions, I could use some please.

couple of questions

Is he getting plenty of exercise everyday?  If they don't get enough exercise they will chew.  A tired dog is a good dog, is so true.

2nd, have you had any other dogs come into the house recently?  Or other animals?  Sometimes if another "smell" is coming into their territory they mark it.  It doesn't sound like he has a urinary tract infection but that could also be a possibility.  It could simply be marking he is probably not neutered yet?

You are doing the right thing by crating him.  He needs to go back to square one.

he does not get as much

he does not get as much exercise as he used to because we just bought a house and have been working on that. But we still give him tons of attention. No other animals have been in our house so I don't think it is that. He is not neutered yet, we were going to do that this month but we bought the house so we thought we would put that off till next month. But it does seem like he is going back to his old ways of not listening and just being naughty.

I remember we had Fatboy fully potty trained at 12 weeks but

I remember around 6-12 months of age he was resorting back to his accidents in the house every now and then.  I couldn't figure it out.  But re-crating and frequent trips outside to play got him back on track.  Good luck!

Be patient...

The new house has probably sent him for a loop.  Less attention from you, a new place to explore, what looks like new stuff to chew.  Sounds like he might be marking because he wants to establish himself in his new home.

These guys are so sensitive, especially at a young age, that he's probably all turned around with the new home.  Try to make sure he doesn't feel punished when you put him in his crate because that might turn against you later...  And give him some of your time - the wallpaper can always wait until another day, lol!

Hang in there, he's a good boy!

i wish it was the new house

i wish it was the new house because that would make more sense, but we are still living at the duplex, so that's why I am not understanding it.

Testosterone Changes

At that age he is likely starting some testosterone changes and may be marking.   He would get a good scolding from me (loud low voice...BADDDD DOGGGGG) if I caught him peeing on something he should not pee on.  Also when I walk my dogs I do not allow them to pee on whatever they want to pee on.  Like they are not allowed to pee on my grass and shrubs in my front landscaping, or other peoples front lawns.  They have to wait until we get to the doggie spot.

This is also another peiece

This is also another peiece of the puzzle to me because when we go for walks he does his business in our yard before we walk, and never ever has peed or pooped in a different yard. We normally walk for about 1 1/2 miles. I have never seen him mark a spot ever. Not saying you are wrong, but if it is marking, would it just happen out of nowhere like that? This whole thing makes me so confused

Sometimes they just revert - Not unlike human children

to do the same.

Go back to potty training 101.  He is still a puppy.  Hey I have girls that peepee their crate pads at times.  Take his bed away in his crate for a week and give it back to him, if he pees on it take it away again for a week and give it back.  At some point he will likely figure out that he gets a bed if he doesn't pee on it.

Personally I feel this is a bit of a bulldog thing because good breeders generally raise these puppies on soft cloth blankets, bedding, etc. because bullie puppies need the texture to get up on their feet.  Other breeds can be raised on newspaper.  We teach them to pee on soft bedding the first 3 weeks of their life.
