My poor girl has an ear infection....

And I have now learned the importance of cleaning her ears with solution after bathing her. It never occurred to me that water would get in there, we're so careful when we bathe her!  But about a week after her bath, we noticed her shaking her head and worrying at her left ear a lot. Luckily, she was already scheduled for a vet visit yesterday for her annual check-up and lyme vaccine, and sure enough -- ear infection.  So, now she gets goop in her ear and a little ear massage twice a day, and I have learned an important lesson. Which is, never think the water can't outsmart me. (Guess I should have learned it after watching "The Waters of Mars" on Doctor Who, but that was MARTIAN water, after all!)

a Cotton Ball into the ear canal before the bath,  once she's dry, then pull them out :)

or be like our local groomer - who forgot to pull them out, and we just happend to notice one, checked and saw the other -

now we check everytime coming back from the Groomer.

We hope she feels better soon ! ! ! ! ! !

Oh, I know she will. If anything, I'm just happy she got it right before her regular vet visit, so at least it saved us a special trip over there!

Question about ear infection...

Molly has been scratching one ear for awhile now and she even has some cuts around it and one inside from scratching. There werent any of the signs of an ear infection that I've read about-no smell, not red,  not shaking her head more than usual.  But tonight when I cleaned it there was some blood (prob from scratching) and what looked like a little darker ear wax.  Do you think it is an infection? She doesnt seem to be in pain if anything just itchy. I don't want to wait until she's in pain nor do I want a visit to the vet to be told it is nothing! I'm torn about what to do!

It might be? This is the first one Beatrix has had, so I'm no expert. With her, I first noticed her head shaking, like she was shaking water off her head, and then that she was scratching the left ear more than usual, like it was super-itchy. But I didn't notice any redness or smell. When the vet cleaned her ear out, it definitely had a dark wax,and when she swabbed it to see what kind of infection it was, there was a little blood. If Molly's been scratching at it enough to hurt herself, though, I'd definitely take her in and have the vet look at it.
