She broke out in hives and had to go to the vet in true bulldog fashion. They gave her a couple doses of Benadryl and admitted her for the day for observations. They didnt think she needed any shots of steroids though. I picked her up and they said the hives haven't gone away, but she didn't develop any further complications (they were monitoring her breathing). They sent her home and told me to watch her overnight, give more benadryl before bedtime and if her breathing changes then it is off to emergency vet. I'm sitting here realizing how long of a night it is going to be! She seems fine, but I'm just so concerned about how many hives she has on her. There is one large bump and then lots of small ones, so I'm wondering if she was stung by something. Shes gotten hives before but not on her face or neck and thats what worries me the most. Anyway I'd love to hear from anyone who has been through this! The worst part is that I have no idea what cause it! Very frustrated and worried about my girl!
Poor Molly!
We'll be thinking of you and of Molly tonight. Let us know how things turn out. I hope she's all better by tomorrow.
How is she today?
I hope the hives are down.
You're a good daddy!!!
Our boy Oscar used to break out in hives...
he would have hundreds of them covering his whole body, but he never had breathing problems from them and didn't even seem to itch very much. We always kept benedryl on hand for him. One of his allergies was to bug spray, he broke out after the exterminator was here. Also, if I washed anything with Tide, he didn't have to touch it, just be in the same room and he would break out. He was also allergic to germinating bermuda grass so we had a great spring every year. Also, rug shampoos, regular shampoos, food, etc.
Thanks!
And mommy....I know Sam is a little tricky! Haha
Unfortunately Molly had another bad reaction around 10 last night. I managed to stay calm and not rush her to the emergency vet in a panic, but did have a sleepless night of watching to make sure she was breathing! So this morning it was back to the vet, where they gave her an injection of benadryl. They still don't want to give steroids unless it progresses. I told them to keep her there again today because I feel like she's safer in case things get worse and also less worry for me! I'm starting to think it is her food because these reactions happened about 1 1/2 hours after both breakfast and dinner. I recently transitioned her to TOTW lamb and these past two days have been more of the new food than old. My other thought is she got stung by something because she does have 1 very large bump. My poor Molly is covered head to toe in hives and looks terrible, but her spirits are up! She played with an 8 week old pitbull while we were waiting for the vet today!
Oops, sorry!
Mom that is!
Poor little thing - at least she seems to be feeling OK...
ayy...poor sweetie...i'm sure

smoochies the scrunchy face
Thanks everyone!
She came home last night. She still has a lot of hives but a lot went away too and her facial swelling/redness is gone so I think she's on the road to getting over the reaction. Just wish I knew what caused it!
That's good
Having the babies home is always better. Hope you can figure out the mystery of what she reacted to!
Me too!
Because they're back again-everywhere! I'm starting to lean towards something outside since it happened after her walk...which was like 2 minutes long because it is so hot. The vet is prescribing an anti-inflammatory to use now but also said it could be a combination of things like environment including humidity! I hate having a vague answer! He recommended allergy testing in the future if it keeps happening
