A MUST READ for raw feeders

One very interesting paragraph is this:
"But here’s the problem. The vast majority of traditionally trained veterinarians in the U.S. do not study nutrition. Most vets learn about companion animal nutrition from a handful of self-interested pet food manufacturers who are a constant presence at vet schools and clinics around the country. The AVMA’s membership is veterinarians who for the most part are far behind the curve in understanding species-appropriate nutrition for pets."
And yet most people still run to their vets for nutritional information...WHY??? There are very few vets that understand nutrition, it takes years and years of research to understand nutrition. And those vets are Naturopathic/Holistic vets.

Of course this has been discussed on our raw feeding co-op.
Ridiculous. So tired of government. Pretty soon they will be telling us what we can and can not eat. Stay out of my decision to feed what I want to feed to my dog. If people can't figure out how to wash their hands then this is not going to help them. Meat is handled all the time and not just raw pet food. I don't think everyone on this earth has become vegan.
I don't feed a raw diet to my dogs
and probably never will but this kind of stuff really irritates me. I don't see anything wrong with the raw diet, for some dogs it can be a life saver. But who is the authority to preach to anyone on what to feed their own dogs. Delta Society excluding raw fed dogs from their programs is ridiculous. I've never known anyone that has gotten sick from contamination caused by a raw fed dog.

Seems odd
Most vets, even the best and most up and up....[read $$$], seem to be under informed on any programs that take money out of the mix....Like Diatomeaous earth for fleas and tapeworms.........Makes me wonder cause they went to college and I drove a truck for a living,. Imagine they are teaching the wrong stuff in foods and natural healing. The base of my dogs diet is USDA chicken, and USDA beef liver. I add some tripe mix, and mix and match foods from the supplier like ground whole turkey, duck, beaver, these are raised in Michigian on a farm and processed and hard frozen there. So far no problems, I use bleach and white vinegar, [not mixed!] to clean up. I only use one big pan for the chicken storage, and the tripe and stuff like that I freeze into portions and store in zip lock bags, and serve off a plastic spoon off of a foam disposable plate I defrost it on , and I wear a glove on my left hand so I don't touch the meats as I think I have a little OCD.....lol I always direct folks to read on raw feeding and as an aside, eveyrone that wants a Bulldog, I direct to the Bulldog rescue to foster first.
