Mommy is tired. Why is he not sleeping?!

Hey everyone!

Have a question. Gunther is 4.5 years, and just this week he has been getting up sporadically all night long. I can't figure out why. Previous to this, he had slept through the night no problem. Let me say, this isn't the first time these sporatic episodes have happened. Last time was a year ago, when we were packing the house for a move.

He is allowed on the bed, so we put him up there and he stays up there for a few hours, jumps off. I try to get him back up there, and he won't go. We usually give him a treat when he gets on the bed, because he needs to get his two paws up first, then we lift his bum. Do you think he jumps down just to get a treat again? But he doesn't stay up there. He has a bed beside me on the floor, so he alternates towards that. Very weird. I have been up every 2 hours since Sunday night.

Any ideas?

Too Warm

He is probably too warm and gets off.  Sometimes MacKenzie wil sleep with me and he does at times get off the bed.  Lately he hasn't slept with me much at all, he prefers his bed on the floor.

My dogs are all allowed up on the couch but they spend alot of time on the floor because it is cooler.

Lola does this all the time

It is normally because we move and startle her so she jumps down and is like let me sleep lol or because she may get too warm with all of our body heat and blankets.. some times its nice to have her out of my back hip for a few hours.. I would snag a pair of pet steps.. my only concern with her jumping off the bed and back on was the impact to her joints.. now that she has the steps it doesnt bother me if she wants down..

Are all dogs this complicated?! LOL

I've only ever owned a bulldog. Are all dogs this complicated? Or are bulldogs a special breed? I've read that they are but I don't have experience to back that up! I know Gunther is spoiled but when we tell people they have no clue what we go through... lol

Sometimes I think about...

what life will be life when he's gone and how much I will wish he was here to wake me up in the middle of the night....so that makes it easier to handle, and I'm CONVINCED owning a bulldog is a good step to have taken before we have children! Kinda like a child in training.. lol

PS, thanks for the blog comment. I need to post more often!!

Just a thought

Do you have a crate that he can sleep in? Jack won't sleep anywhere but his crate. We've tried letting him sleep on the couch but he just runs back and forth. We've tried letting him sleep on his dog bed in the family room but he gets really restless. The only place he will sleep is in his crate with blankets thrown over the top.....like a birdcage. I've heard of other bulldogs being like this so maybe its something to try.
