Hi Everyone, I am new to this forum I am interested in getting an english bulldog. I was wondering if anyone has a mini? I love them their so cute but I know there are mixed reviews on them. I am from NJ and looking for a breeder also.
Any information and pictures of the pups would be so helpful!!
Thanks!
Do you mean a 'French' Bulldog ?
Take a read of the home page, down on the left side - It talks about 'Mini-Bulldogs' (Basically do they exist)

Actually
You came to the right place. The people here will teach you the up and downs in buying a Bulldog, and what to look out for.
English Bulldogs don't really branch out into a "Mini" as far as I know, unless I'm mistaken.
There is a strict STANDARD and maybe people get confused by small English Bulldogs, or want to charge more cause they gave it a special name.
I read and read and read, still I knew very little about Bulldogs till I got one, and I think it's human nature to see the list of special requirements that Bulldogs have, and say I can handle that, and that too, oh and that is no problem, still it all adds up. You find yourself very busy dealing with issues that some other dogs just don't have. And still ya learn, you have to , so there is more time, and trying this cure or that, still more time.....can't deal with the problem yourself....?, more money and time at the vet, trainer, groomer.
I wouldn't trade these boys for anything in the world, but I want you to know they do take a committment, in mostly time, but money too.
I would first keep reading here, and decide what you want to feed your pup first. Then decide what you want to try if he doesn't like or tolerate that food.....then check out raw, and keep reading and know you will find issues, but the good people here will help you as they do help me.

No Such Breed
There is no such breed s a Mini bulldog. Bulldogs breed standard size is 40-45 lbs for bitchs and 50-55 lbs for a dog. You might find a smaller puppy in a litter but they are not mini's. Size at bitch does not guarantee small at adulthood. Look for a breeder that has standard sized bulldogs. Please find a reputable breeder that is breeding for health, temperment and breed standard. Minimum health certifications and testing should be a must IMO.
Please do not buy from a puppy miller and BYB that has no care or concern for the breed. Find a breeder close to you that is always available when you need them. That will answer all you questions.
If you want a smaller breed then I suggest you consider a French Bulldog.
Also:
The books on bulldogs will claim that they are 40-45 for the girls and 50-55 for the boys. However, our girl has been 60 lb for most of her adult life. Growing up, I had a 65 lb girl and a 75 lb bullie boy. My parents had an 85 lb bulldog. There were NOT fat dogs.
Our current dog had a 45 lb mother but had a large father. Shop carefully if size matters to you. Whatever, you probably won't find a bulldog under 40 lb and when you buy a puppy, you can't be sure what size it will be when grown. (Bulldogs keep growing until they are about 2 1/2 years old.)
If you want a 25-30 lb dog, French Bulldogs are delightful. Mini-bulldogs are simply mixed breed dogs bred with part bulldog and part something else, the sold for a lot of money. There is no standardization whatsoever.
Let us know what you decide.
There are no reputable breeders of minis
Because the mini is not a breed. Most of the time these are bulldogs mixed with Boston terriers.
NO SUCH THING!!!!!
sorry but please read as much as you can....start with the standard...talk to breeders...and not those with rare tri blacks ....blue ones ect......real breeders.......most mini bulls are backyard puppy millers looking for a buck
I agree with the "no such thing" responses. Please start your
research on the breed. It took me two years of researching before I finally decided I wanted to get a bulldog. And decision came after the "I want bulldog so bad because they're cute!" stage. There's a lot of responsibility that goes along with the cuteness. A lot of people don't understand these responsibilities and is the a huge reason bulldogs are surendered and/or not taken care of properly.

I agree with all the responses
Joe and I decided that we wanted a bulldog when we got married in 2005. We talked to people and read every book we could find. FINALLY for my birthday in 2008 we got Ozzy (best birthday present EVER). Then in 2010 we got Jax. They are both SOOOO different and each had his own "problems" Ozzy had eye issues that have now been handled. Jax has a knee issue. Ozzy is laid back and hates loud noises or any change to his routine. Jax still has puppy in him and can be a holy terror.
So please do your research and DO NOT get a mini (there is no such thing). You could also check into rescues in your area.

What are you looking for in a pet?
Are you looking for a small frame specifically? Maybe research Boston Terriers or French Bulldogs. Both are a little more active than English Bulldogs though. I have two Bostons, and I love them dearly. They are not as laid back as an English, but they are small (15 and 18 lbs). They don't have as many health issues you need to stay ontop of, but they do still have some.
Key is to do alot of research, find what you want, and then research some more! Find a reputable breeder where you can go spend time with the breed, but I would not suggest meeting a puppy first. Puppy's have magical powers and you will be 'heart sold' before your brain can process anything!

A great place to investigate
A great place to investigate different breeds is a dog show. If there is one in your area, go and see many different breeds and usually breeders/showers are quite helpful in answering questions and giving you lots of great information about their breed and what you should/should not be looking for! You may have to wait to speak to them until they have a free moment, but I found it very helpful in making a decision in adding a bulldog to my family. It's also a lot of fun to be surrounded by that many puppies :)
