Bully Nation notified me that there is a Bulldog in West Chester SPCA (20 miles from my work) as it was last night 'Adoption Pending' (someone else)
Dottie basically said 'Go Get Him' (So I'll call the SPCA this morning) however -
How do I introduce him to Gizmo ? she seems real mellow with other dogs, not aggressive or anything but it is 'her' house. How have you done it?
here is his info (any bells or whistles going off from the description?)

ANY advice helpful - gotta get this boy outta SPCA :)

My advice is go get him
He looks like a sweet boy, maybe a little thin. Just be sure to introduce the two dogs at a neutral location, not at home.
Good Luck!
what a cute boy!!
As for introductions...I'd have them meet somewhere else besides the shelter (too many stressed out dogs and people there). And definitely not in Gizmo's house. In the past when I've picked up rescues I've asked people to meet me at Petsmart (or similar). It's a pretty neutral site and the staff are usually more than willing to allow you to use their training area/room to do the meet and greets if they don't have a class going on.
When you meet, you need to have someone else (besides you or Dottie) walk Slim Jim (so it's a neutral person at a neutral site) for the first meeting. It's important to let them stop and smell each other and then you move on after a brief "hello." if that goes well you can let them sniff and check each other out a little longer on the second pass. the best option would be to take them for a walk (around the parking lot if it isn't too busy and the weather is decent) or around the perimeter of the store with the two people doing the walking on the "inside" and both dogs on the "outside" so the order across would be Gizmo, Rick, Friend, Slim Jim (two people separate the dogs as you walk). Do that for a while (burn some energy and let them sort of check each other out at the same time).
At home, be sure to have two separate crates. When you first come home let Gizmo in first (she's the "owner" of the house). Then bring Slim Jim in and put him in the crate right away. Have the crate in main room of your house so he can see the family and the goings on without actually being in the mix. You can slowly introduce him in to your family activities as he proves himself to be trustworthy and he and Gizmo get used to one another.
Thanks for saving this sweet guy. Please don't hesitate to ask more questions!! All of us are here to help as much as we can! :)

Listen to your wife
Go get that boy!!!. I sure Gizmo will love to have a brother. yes there might be problems but you guys will get thru that o.k.. I think ya have made Gizmo as happy and shown her more love than anything. you will be a great mom and dad to him. and will love that you have you have enough to show and take care of him. If Dotties says go get him than do it after all she does know best. i agree meet at a park or other place for the first meeting. If you ncan do it at a park play with Gizmo let her see other dogs and think it another day at the park. what ever or how the rescue will do it I sure ya will be fine. Just listen to Dottie. Rick you sound like you are kinda like me.(we drift off into another world when we are around bullies.) good luck if they need ref and will take e-mails i"m here for ya. He is awesome looking.

*Update* - Bully Nation created LOTS of interest in Slim Jim -
UPDATE: Chester Country SPCA is overwhelmed with interest in Slim Jim - The have a family going through the adoption process and the woman I spoke with is acutely aware of bulldogs and their special needs, and she assured me, they are keeping this in mind with all of the interest. I will check back with them Tueday (Monday is a holiday) to make sure he is in a home and not the shelter.
But from talking with her, he is going to be just fine - Oh well... Gizmo doesnt get a brother (today)

Loves and Smooches, Kippa and Mama (Annette)
Sorry to hear that Gizmo will not have Slim Jim for a brother.
You would have given him the perfect home filled with love and another bullie friend.
Don't give up though.. there are so many bullies out there that need homes... if you need any help, send me a message on facebook.
:) well it wasnt planned ... but maybe 1 day :)
He just happend to be the 2nd posting of a Bully in my immediate area, that I wanted to help. But I'll keep checking, I dont like the idea of them being in a shelter at all.
Who knows, I might just take you up on that offer one day Kathie :)

what i suggest is this......
before making that giant leap and just getting another dog....i would call the local bulldog rescue and foster a dog...and if it does not work out...it does not end badly...like the dog back to a shelter...but going back to rescue.....AND most important its a good trial run for you to...do you really want another dog and will it b as fun with two as one.....
foster one first...they need the love and attention...and who knows i know many many foster failures who adopted their fosters.....
Thanks Judy :)
We weren't really prepared to expand the family, but when I saw this guy on the SPCA site and not in a rescue group, I just wanted him out of that situation. We were gonna 'Figure something out' which I know would of been better than SPCA. But Bully Nation got the word out over facebook and their phones were ringing off the hook for a home for Slim Jim :)
I'll follow up on Tuesday, to make sure though :)

Is Gizmo sad about not getting a brother?
It's too bad that Gizmo could get a brother. But bravo for you and your wife for being willing to go get Slim Jim. He sure was handsome, but Gizmo had be the only child for awhile longer.
