Hello -
I'm new to this site and was wondering if anyone can give me some advice. My little boy Sucre (his 5 months) currently has Mange which I just found out that he got it from his mother which I did not know she had it when I adopted him from the breader (I've already contacted him). I'm devastated and soooo sad to see him in soo much discomfort. I currently have him in a 8 week weekly treatment with the vet but was wondering if anyone has experienced this and if there is anything I can put on his skin to help him feel at easy and less itchy. He looks like he is in so much discomfort and I just can't wait for this to be over :o(
Any advice??
Thanks

Mange
Do you know what kind it is? if it is Demedex I have used Goodwinol ointment and that seems to help alot. You can get it cheaper on amazon.com
Hope this helps.

If it is demodectic mange
all dogs harbor the mites. It is only when the immune system is stressed that symptoms-ie. hair loss, itchy skin become an issue. Puppies going to their new homes, vaccinations etc., can stress a puppy, making them prime for the mites to flourish. Most dogs live their entire lives symptom free. Since they are not born with the mites, yes they are transmitted from the mother but that does not mean that the mother was unhealthy.
Lots on the internet to read about demodectic mange, so don't panic.

Not a "big" deal
My Stella got demodetic mange twice as a puppy. She was treated with IVERMECTIN, which was in liquid form and I put it in her food. It takes a pretty long time to get rid of the mange but you seem like you are on top of the situation. Don't despair, Sucre (sugar in French, hmmm) will be OK. The meds should start helping soon - how long has he been on them?
Thanks for the advice, Sucre
Thanks for the advice, Sucre just started his 1st of 8 treatements this past Tuesday (it's a weekly thing) and the vet gave him a shot of antibiotic. Today he is doing good although we took our eyes away for a moment and of course he scratched his forehead with his nails and now it looks even worse so yeah... I'm stressing but I think he will be ok. He's more alert today but still kinda not looking like himself. Can't wait till this is over. I'm contacting the Vet tomorrow to see if he can recomend an ointment to aleviate the itching. Yes Sucre mean "Sweet Sugar" cute huh??!! Have a great Thanksgiving.
