Little Kaida - 11 wks old now and on her own today :/

Kaida at 11 wksSo, today is Kaida's first day home all day by herself without either her mommy or daddy - no more vacation for us til the end of the year.

It'll be her first 10 hour day alone.  I feel so guilty.  I'm actually looking for a new job that will be close to home so I can go home at lunch time.

Miss my girl already -

She's gotten a bit leggier and has gained about 2 lbs since she's come to us:

She is precious

Its hard to leave them.  We have to leave our two also but they mostly sleep all day.  She will be just fine.

I remember feeling the same way

do you have anyone nearby that can go let her out mid day?  I'm sure she'll be fine even if not.  =)  let us know how she did tomorrow.

no one nearby - as we moved in May

Unfortunately, we both moved about 45 minutes from each of our work places so we'd be able to fairly move in together without one of us doing the super long commute.  I was hoping we'd find someone in our building who is a stay at home mom or something of that nature - no luck there though.

I will set up our video cam and see how she does over the next week to determine if I need to find someone to come in mid-day and spend an hour with her during the weekdays.

Will keep you posted!

Kaida report - the first day home alone...need a deterrent

So, I got home yesterday - Kaida's first day alone with her mom & dad at work and found:

She hadn't played with her toys (except the Kong & a stuffed lion being moved) - and there was no poop?  UH OH.  She had pee'd on the potty training pads - and should have pooped at least twice more since I left in the morning and when I got home?  I saw a few small traces and smudges of it, but nothing else?  Not in her crate that she naps in during the day either?

I suspect...UGH - she might have consumed it?  I read that canned pumpkin and pineapple are natural deterrents when mixed in their food (which I haven't tried yet) has anyone found this to help?

She is currently being fed by an autofeeder which dispenses her 1/4 cup of kibble at 12 and 5PM.  I give her breakfast and a snack at night.  Are those 2 meals I give her enough of a deterrent during the day when I'm not home?

I've also heard of tablets you can give them that will make their poop smell bad to them so they don't do it?

We always pick up her poop and dispose of it when we are home or outside - but inside - if the deterrent doesn't work, I may need to find a mid-day walker to come by and check on her.

Thanks for the advice,

KaidasMom

I totally felt the same way

I totally felt the same way when I first starting leaving Molly during the day and she had a walker then! It does get so much easier and she probably sleeps most of the day! The first time I left Molly for several days, I cried when my parents picked her up.  I left her this weekened again because I had a wedding and it was way easier than the first time-but I did call to check in a few times! Hang in there and leave her something special to keep ber occupied-I leave a kong with some yogurt that I freeze!

frozen yogurt!

That is a fantastic idea!  I didn't even think of that!  I have given her a Kong filled with peanut butter and treat pieces mixed in as a snack and to keep her occupied while I walk out the door until her tongue can't reach any further inside -

Frozen yogurt sounds perfect - that way as it melts she can get it all.  I've been giving her a teaspoon of yogurt with her breakfast kibble each morning - so this is an absolutely wonderful alternative to PB!

Thank you so much!
