leg injury

Angus just jumped off the deck and is now limping on his back leg and there is a slight popping sound when he walks.  Anyone know what this could be? he doesnt seem to be in any pain when I touch it.

CCL tear or rupture or Meniscus rupture is a possibility

CCL is the Cranial Cruciate ligament.   Some reading  http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&A=1975

Other possibles are hip or luxiating patella.

Crate rest and leash only is in order.  I recommend discussing it with a vet.  They will likely want to do xrays, they should manipulate the knee to try and determine if it is loose first.

Should add

it could also be a strained or pulled muscle, let's hope that is the case.  I have not had any of mine display pain with a torn ligament, they limped and after the initial swelling was gone I could definitely feel the looseness.  The swelling was not visable, but caused a tightness to the knee in the first couple of weeks.

Kohl is currently on lock up, with a partial tear.  He will likely be having surgery around the end of this month.  He much improved but the long term arthritis is a concern for me.  There are many that have not had the surgery done.  I would like to know those that have opted for no surgery as to what the long term mobility was of the dog after the arthritis set in.  Was it worse then what the dog would have normally displayed from just getting old?  Not sure there are any studies to answer this.
