bad teeth...like an abcess....wellness makes a charcoal biscuit that helpd with bad breath....plus they help break down the tarter....
their are some great things to add to his water..that also help with tarter....
if he burps and his breath is bad give him some tums two twice a day....old age slows down digestion....what are you feeding..at ten they cant digest what they did when they were 5.....
even my raw fed dogs cant digest raw as well...thats why i use a wok to steam some of their food......

bad breath, especially with an older dog, can be caused by tartar, gum disease, broken or abcessed teeth etc., The vet is able to clean up under the gums, scrap and clean teeth and remove any troublesome teeth, all of which are uncomfortable or painful for the dog and do cause bad breath.
Unfortunately, the dog has to be sedated. We have had dentals done on several of our dogs, all with great success.
after checking for any gum diease....

I would ask your vet about having a dental done on him
