Kippah size

OK, so I am starting to wonder about Kippah's size.  She is 36 pounds, and does not seem to be bulking up much.  I see that Jack, who is just a tad bit younger than her is 57 lbs...and I do know her size is greatly determined by the line she came from---but still I am a little worried.  She has not gained much over the last 2 months.  She got up to 33 lbs, dropped to 30 because she did not like the new salmon food, then picked that back up.

She is on avoDerm grain free, and really likes it.  The vet wanted to make sure she did not gain too fast on it, since it has a little more fat than some foods.  She is very active.  But at 8 months should I still expect to see consistant weight gain.  Up until she was 6 months old she was a pound a week kind of girl.  I do know that it needed to slow down at some point...BUT should I be worried?  Should I take her in to be checked (not scheduled to see vet for another couple months)

I doubt there is any need to

I doubt there is any need to worry.  The few female bulldogs I've met have all been around 40 pounds.  I remember one owner saying that their bullie stopped growing when she was 6 months old.  I'm sure kippah will game some more weight, maybe top out in the 40s which from what I've heard is ideal.

Molly is 9 months and has held steady at 38 pounds for the last 6 weeks. She lost a few pounds after a vomitting episode but now is back up. She used to gain weight at crazy rates but the vet explained they go through growth spurts and they can grow until 2. How much do you feed Kippah? I think she's fine either way!

Sounds fine

Winnie was 60lbs  and Kilmore was 75lbs full grown.  A guy I work with has a male and female both are in the 50lbs area.  Do you know how much both her dog parents were?  Kilmore's were both around 80 and Winnie's were around 60, so that should be a good judge on their size.  Bullies like people come in all shapes and sizes. :)

Don't worry

she will likely gain about 5-8 lbs over the next couple of years.   The rule is add 10 lbs to the 6 month weight.  At 40 lbs she is just perfect.

Gizmo is a porker than :P @ 52lbs and holding

Gizmo (just turned 2) is pretty broad chested compared to other bullies we have met - and she is maintaining at 52.   I like to keep her about 50(ish) at the max, She isnt sagging, and she isnt rubbing belly on ground - definately dont think she is over weight -   each bully is different :) there is no 'right answer' when it comes to weight (unless you see ribs and back bone, or if the puppy can't move cause his belly is plastered to the ground  LOL)

Relax Momma   :)

No She's Not

a Porker...LOL!  She's just a bigger girl.  Ester is right around 50 lbs as well and she is definitely not a big bitch but she is what we call a doggie bitch.  Very broad.  Standard says bitches should be about 40-45 lbs but it is just a guideline, balance is most important.

she's pleasantly

she's pleasantly plump...that's plumpette to you rick!!!lol

ok I feel better

KIppahs Mama was 55 lbs and sire was 60 lbs.

GOOD to know that rule of thumb of 10 lbs on top of the 6 mth weight--that helps alot Thanks Deb.

But that Porkie 57 lb Jack really made me wonder, but then again he is a HE, and he always has weighed more that Kippah face.

OK I will relax, lots going on with me health wise and its easier for me to deal with it if I worry about everyone else  LOL--Pray for strength for me please..I have a super busy 3 weekends, and I am not sure my back and my pain level will handle it well.

Kippah sounds fine

Jack's daddy is Ch. Jolly Roger. From his owner's website it says that the line he comes from is known for their big heads and heavy bones. I tried to find a weight on him but couldn't find anything.  Just guessing here, but Jack's mom looked like she was between 55-60 lbs. She was a big girl.  Even though Jack could probably stand to lose a few lbs, he is within 2 lbs of his brother who is on a completely different diet and activity schedule. Kippah sounds fine and looks great!  She really has turned out to be a beautiful bully.

Beatrix, who is now two and a half, is only 38 to 40 pounds -- she's just a petite girl. And, like Kippah, she's been this size for a while. I think since she was a year or so old. So, maybe Kippah will just be petite, too.

Personally, it's a size I like -- she can still fit on my lap for snuggles, which I love!
