just got the call...

Remy's procedure is done. They couldn't do the balloon plasty because of his abnormal coronary artery, so they woke him up and I get to bring him home tomorrow. The good news is, that even though he has this heart condition, he can still live a relatively normal long life because he is so healthy and active otherwise. Sebastian has the same prognosis with his pulmonic stenosis too, so I'll just have two dogs that maybe later, will have to take it a litte easier, but I will know that I did everything I could to ensure them both happy lives.

Remy is getting spoiled by all the staff at MSU, and is just going to spend the rest of today snoozing away!!! Thanks again for all the support, it made the time go by easier knowing that I was not alone in this.

Thanks for the update Kim.

I am sorry they couldn't do much fixing of Remy, but as long as he will be healthy and able to lead a normal, long life, all is well:-)

Wow that is too bad

I'm just curious if you knew when you had him shipped to you that he had a heart condition?  Your breeder should have known this when they had his 7 week well puppy check. Did your vet find it at your well checkup?  Maybe you rescued him, I miss alot of posts.  Curious if your breeder is doing health testing and if the bitch and sire had their CHIC certificates.  I'm asking because I'm curious how many puppy buyers are looking for breeders that are doing health testing or if it isn't of concern to buyers.  I had very few people ask about health testing when I had my litter.

yes, I knew...

My breeder that had him found out at hi 7 week check up and told the original buyer and she decided to back out, but took his twin instead (his face is divided in color the opposite of Remy's). She thought long and hard before asking me if I would adopt him, but since I already had Sebastian she knew I had experience with this. And before you ask, it is not the same breeder as Sebastian and Oliver's. She is doing health testing and both parents have their CHIC certificates. He is the only one in the litter who had a problem, the same as Sebastian. Not because of bad breeding or genetics, just a fluke.

I never really posted about Remy's condition when I knew I was getting him because I don't see him as a sick puppy, just as a puppy who needs a good loving home. So, like Sebastian, I was well aware of what I could be getting into when I decided to adopt him.

I don't think she has very many buyers asking her either, but she is extremely picky about who she sells her puppies too. The buyer must live within a reasonable driving time to Tucson, unless she is personal friends with you and then you still must drive to pick him up or arrange transportation (by road, not air). She has been very generous and has even helped pay for some of the costs. She would have liked to have been able to pay for all of it, but they just bought some property that juts behind their home to start a bulldog rescue as she is going to quit breeding. She doesn't think it would be ethical to continue to be a breeder and have a rescue at the same time.

I hope this answered your questions, Deb, and I really appreciate all the concern you've always shown me about my boys. I just have a weakness for the ones who have problems and I'm willing to take them on at any time.

Kim - That is great

there are homes needed for special needs puppies and I think it's great you are providing this puppy a wonderful home.   Even with all we do shit still happens, we lost one of Ester's puppies at 10 1/2 months, so I know even with a very healthy bitch it happens.  The owners pet sitter found him dead in the yard, no necropsy was done so we don't have anything conclusive.  We do know he was not a great breather and they had him scheduled for palette surgery.  Unfortunately they both had to go out of town on business, had a doggie door and when the sitter came in the afternoon she found him.  Very sad as these people had just lost Ester's brother a year before.  I had my doubts about placing a dog with them...but they are wonderful people and a wonderful home and they were totally devistated.  It must have been gods work because about a month after they lost Rudy,  Suri's owner called.  She was having problems with the girls fighting and Suri was getting the worst of it and this lady had a disability and was using a cane and just could not handle the two.  So long story short,  we flew Suri  from Anchorage to Seattle, I picked her up, took her to Spokane with me (was going to a dog show), Bonnie flew from Maryland to Spokane, picked up Suri, drove her to Denver, put her on a Pet Airways flight to Baltimore, where her husband picked her up.  It just was meant to be, because there was alot of pieces that had to work together to get her safely to the eastcoast.  She is happy as a clam, loving her brother Otis, and Bonnie and Vernon got to rescue pretty Suri.
