Is it worth it to buy a 6 month puppy?

Hello all!!

I am almost ready to buy a bully puppy :)

I found an excellent boy in a reputable breeder (I know the parents, grandparents etc), he is completely healthy and I really like him!

He is almost 6 month old and the price is the same as younger puppies (when available). My question is if it is worth to buy a 6 month old puppy in the sense of training and most important bonding with me! He will bond as if bought at an earlier age?

What do you suggest? Should I wait for other puppies to be available or I should go with him?

Thanks!!

He will bond with you just fine:-)

6 months old is still very young:-) Training and bonding shoudln't be a problem. If you like him and he is healthy and whole, I wouldn't hesitate to bring him home.

Best of luck to you:-)

I bought one at 7 months

She did just fine. There is always a period of adjustment no matter the age but, there wasn't an issue with bonding.

Absolutely!

Our first bully was six months when we got him and he bonded just fine.  And we didn't have to go through potty training - a huge bonus!!  :)

Yes

I just got a female that will be 4 in January, she is an absolute lovebug, plus, already trained.  Give the older guys a chance, I just don't see how you can regret it.  The best plus.......no needle sharp teeth.  LOL

Seems to be a pretty common myth that

dogs don't bond with their owners unless they are young pups. What a shame, an awful lot of older pups and adult dogs gets passed by because of it.. That's one of the neat things about dogs, they can change their allegiance in a second.

A six month old pup will have no problem bonding.

their are many really nice retired show dogs that would love a home  to themselves....older dogs are great

Go For It :)

He will absolutely bond with you.  There are some real benefits to buying an older puppy.  BUT a word of caution.  If this puppy has been in raised in a kennel then you could have a little trouble house breaking him. He can be trained but it will require some patience.  If he is not neutered that is the first thing I would have done. Hopefully that is not the case and he has been raised in the home.  With a bulldog I think he will bond just fine.

Honestly having a 9 wk old puppy isn't for everyone.  They can be very trying at times.

absolutely!

The only dog that won't bond with a new owner is a dog that never bonded with it's breeder. And a dog that never bonded with it's breeder is a dog that wasn't raised properly!

I spend many hours with the pups I raise (my litters and the litters from other breeder/exhibitors) and every one is very people oriented and bonds very quickly with their new owners. Over the years I've placed adult dogs into new homes and they are tight to them within a day or 2, like they have lived with them all their lives. Even pups I've raised for others will come running to me if I see them at shows years later.

One tip - take your new pup to a Puppy training class, it will be fun and good for both of you and strengthen your bond too.

Thanks all!!

Thank you all for the replies and interesting stories shared!

The decision is taken... I will get him and share photos with you all asap :)

That's great ! :) Gizmo was 8 months when we got her

And she is sooo far up our butts at times :) hee hee  there shouldnt be a bonding issue in my (non) expert opinion :)   LOL

Can't wait to see the puppy pictures :)

Don't forget to post photos of your puppy.

I'll bet you'll bond within a day or so.
