Invisible fence

Hello everyone

We are moving into a house that's already equiped with an invisible fence. Is my bulldog going to be able to figure out the boundaries? He doesn't wonder off anyways so I don't know if we are going to even use it just curious if anyone else has an invisible fence for their bulldog and if it works. Thanks

my archie didn't wander either...but better safe than sorry sweetie no?

I don't like them

People rely on them like a regular fence and don't monitor the dog while its outside. Inviisible fences offer no protection for your dog, anything can come into your yard - wildlife, other dogs, thieves etc., Any dog can learn to live within the fence but if the stimulus - ie. another dog/cat/jogger/bike is great enough for the dog, the dog will run through the shock.

They need to 'learn' the boundries - little flags . . .

Some in the neighborhood have them -  They run the wire underground, and then they put up little flags all along the boarder - as the dog gets used to the flags, they start taking down a few here in there. So instead of ever  foot, they are every 2 foot, then every 3 foot.

However - I agree with Lynn - it might keep your dog IN the boundry, but it doesnt keep others out -

There is a lab in the neighborhood who they must of turned the 'shock/buzzer' up on, because it used to be a wild child.  Now it bolts around the house, but it slams on the breaks at the boundry, so they do work.

Also - dogs get 'scared' to even get into a car to go over the boundry, to the point, some people suggest only use it in the backyard -

Its a decision you will have to make, but for me, Gizmo isnt outside (for any period of time) without us (we have a little fenced in 'Pee Garden that she runs out into, but that is about it)

My fence is to keep things

My fence is to keep things OUT, not so much my dogs in.  But if they make an invisible fence that shocks anything that comes into my yard I might think about it for my front yard!  LOL

I cant tell you how many time I have been asked where abouts we live when we are out with Kippah,  Its like they are fishing for a neighborhood so they can come steal her!  stupid mean people!  But she is never unattended, EVER

Honestly, I'm not a fan of them.  They will not keep dogs out from coming onto your property & I just don't like the use of them for any dog. JMO
