Good morning. Just wanted to introduce my bulldog Chef D. He was born Nov 5, 2011.
So far he has been really good. Almost scary. We live on the 10th floor of an apartment, so housebreaking has been a little bit of a challenge, but overall he is doing well. He is not a fan of his crate, especially if we are home. He will tollerate it when we are gone. He has never chewed up his bed or blanket. He is great on the lease. Mostly he is loose-leash except when another dog is near-by. Even then I can normally get him to sit and not pull. (he is really good with commands)
We live in the city of New Orleans. He loves to go out and take walks. His favorite places to hang out are with the doormen of the hotels near-by. He learned very quickly he gets a LOT of attention in those spots. It's to the point he will run to their doormat and sitdown waiting for people to pet him. And they always do, so it works. He never tries to nip at strangers who pet him. He loves people of every age, size, shape, color. If you walk by and not pet him he gets a really sad face.
He is a bar dog also. If we walk by our local bar and it's closed he gets mad and tries to open the door. If we walk-by and the door is open he just walks in and goes right to his water bowl. Then he sits on the doormat greeting people. The owner says he brings in more business. LOL Even if the bar is real busy and he is playing with someone else I can get his attention make him do a command.
So far he has not tried to chew up anything other than the rungs of the bar chairs and the metal wheels on our entertainment center. Noise doesn't bother either. We live near a 2 hospitals so there are a lot of sirens and they don't phase him at all. Even thunder doesn't bother him.
I've lurked and also read about bulldogs behavior, so everyday I'm waiting for when the distructive behavior to appear.

hello and welcome!
ooh he's a cutie!and i love the fact that he goes to a bar and he's become
a regular of sorts,lol-that is awesome!!!that's wonderful on his behaviour-
doesn't necessarily mean that it will change...but nothing that obedience classes or
training won't help w/if it does...

Hello and WELCOME to our quirky world !
He is very cute :) and you should be very proud of him :) sounds like he is doing just fine -
" rungs of the bar chairs " every one of our kitchen and dining room chairs have 'I wonder if this tastes good' Marks on them. Not chewed up..but you can see the areas where they have been 'tested' by Gizmo - so this is natural :) 10th floor, that's gotta be tough !
Send up a few Po'boys please ! :)

A whitey!
He's gorgeous. I had a whitey myself, and it's my favorite colouring for bullies!
My Stella never went though a destructive phase. The only thing she ever chewed was hard plastic things (i.e. remotes and cordless phones), and that was our fault for leaving them lying around. Apart from that, she was perfectly behaved from the start! Maybe you'll be lucky like us - maybe it's a whitey thing!
That would be great if he
That would be great if he stays like this. We are constantly told how good he is for being so young. Even at the bar I can leave him off leash if I want. I generally don't, but we have a friend who has a 4 year old service dog. If they are in the bar I let him go off leash to play with her. The other dog never goes past the threshold and Chef D follows her lead. (I'm always standing in the doorway anyway). Him hanging out with her has been great. He really follows her lead on things.

Welcome to BDW! Chef D is
Welcome to BDW! Chef D is adorable, and I love that he knows to go to places where people will pay attention to him. :) I can't wait to hear more of his stories!
So Cute!
I love that he goes to the bar! That's my kind of dog!
I live on the 9th floor of an apartment building and it was so annoying when I was in the process of housebreaking. I felt like I spent the whole day riding up and down in the elevator since she had to go out so frequently. There may have also been a few pee accidents in the hallway while waiting for the elevator to come!!
welcome to the family!
So glad you moved from lurker to poster! :) Sounds like your boy is very well behaved! I cannot wait to hear more about your adventures together!

Welcome
It is so true that if people walk by without them getting a pat they look sad. Just another bulldog thing.
What a cute boy! Welcome to BDW!
We are very glad to have you here:-) Hope you enjoy the board and settle in as the family member you have now become:-)

Welcome! Can you send virtual beignets?
Welcome to this fantastic community! It is awesome that you live in NOLA, it is one of my favorite cities to visit :-)
Your story about how Chef D is popular with the doormen is HILARIOUS! We live in an apartment building (completely understand about the housebreaking as we have a ridiculously long hallway and he usually can't hold it that long) and Rugby loves all the people and will plop his butt down and patiently wait for people to pet him. Funny how these guys are so social huh?
Looking forward to more Chef D stories!
