I put Tea Tree Oil on Gunther's folds... then I googled it... Poisonous?!!!

I feel sick. We wash him with tea tree oil dog shampoo and it's been helping his itchy feet, so stupid me bought 100% pure TTO and put some on a cotton pad in his folds near his eyes and his nose rope..

Sat down, googled it and find out it's poisonous!

I wet a towel and wiped it off 2 times and dried it. Not I'm paranoid. I hope he will be ok.... I feel sick!!

Thoughts? He's 70 pounds...

I know 100% tea oil is harmful to small dogs and cats. Gunther is a big boy. He didn't ingested so hopefully he will be fine :(

Wash off the tea tree oil and call your vet !!!

As it happens, I put a few drops of pure Tea Tea oil on Dudley's irritated tail last night at around 11 pm and it poisoned him. This morning he had difficulty moving his rear legs and was trembling which, as I now know, are caused by the toxic effects of Tea Tree oil. I did my best to wash the stuff off of his tail (Dawn detergent is recommended) and immediately took him to the vet. He's there right now receiving IV fluids. He is expected to recover and I hope to pick him up later today.

How ironic we both did it. I felt sick all last night. I put it on him at about 5:30 last night. He appeared ok. He was super tired anyway from a benedryl earlier in the day and no sleep, so he crashed around 8pm and slept pretty good all night. This morning, he was tired but alert and jumped off the bed and went to the bathroom and ate no prob. We are at work. I have a webcam on him and he is snoozing away in different positions...

How scary. I'm so glad Dudley is going to be ok and so glad Gunther appears to have not been affected (knock on wood)
