We are thinking about getting a new puppy to be brothers with my current bully puppy, Henry. I am afraid of him getting jealous and I don't want to take any attention away from Henry. Should we wait or is it better to go ahead and get one now so they can grow up together? Pros and Cons. Anyone? Please help!
I would do it early instead of waiting...
I can't speak from experience of owning multiples but I would go for it early if I had it to do all over again. Depending of course on how well mannered and trained my current puppy was/is of course.
I wish I had gotten another bully when Sanford was younger because he was much more tolerant and would have accepted it far better than he would now. He would be beside himself if I brought another puppy home now. He's so accustomed to it just being me and him and I take full responsibility for creating the spoiled monster that he is... he has "only dog syndrome" if you know what I mean. He's 7 yrs old now and has been with me since he was 9 weeks old so he doesn't know anything else and it wouldn't be fair for me to force him to change his life for me at this point.
Anyway, good luck with your decision... IMO I would go for it.
IMO it's never too soon....
I have 2 bulldogs (a male & a female) and I believe they are happier having someone to "bulldog around" with, they have a playmate and someone they can cuddle with when I'm just not enough LOL but I also babysit extra bulldogs from time to time (this weekend had 2 extra bullies) so my fur-kids are good at accepting new friends into the house. I would totally have a whole herd of bulldogs if I had my choice, but that's just me I love love love any and all bulldogs, the more the merrier!
Leesa, Diesel & Molly
Sounds like a perfect age to me!
Just be prepared for double the fun of two bully pups.
P.S. It's going to be awesome!
Certainly Not to soon
I personally like them spaced about 2 years apart, but it is not to soon at all. I like them that much apart because of the issue when they get older and they pass. I'm not sure I could take the heart ache of having 2 geriatric dogs passing about the same time. Also senior dogs can be a little hard to take care of depending on their special needs so be prepared for that.
Be prepared for double the expense and make sure financially you have a reserve incase something serious comes up.
Don't get another just to be a playmate with the one you already have. They do very well as single family dogs, but most definitely do enjoy a friend. Now that MacKenzie is old (9) it is nice for Ester to have Kohl to play with and they play alot.
