For the last few months, Cupcake has been sleeping in the bed with me and husband. It's been wonderful until lately... She is just getting so big, and now I'm not sleeping well. In fact, I'm awake this early writing this because I awoke to sweet little Cupcake fet scratching my neck in a fit of REM sleep. So how do I go about getting her to sleep on her bed beside our bed on the floor again? Is there a way to do this in a way that will be the least traumatic for her? I don't want her to take this personally, she's such a good girl. But I miss being able to sleep comfortably. Perhaps I could reinforce the pure awesomeness of sleeping on the floor with treats? Help!

with a face like that? how could ya!
I love the 1st picture -
The only way I would know would be to close the 'Den' (the bedroom door)
sorry I know that isnt much help - Gizmo still sleeps in her crate, we're trying to get her to sleep in the bedroom - but she things BED TIME IS PLAY TIME - her favorite game is playing Submarine, and she 'leads' with her lower jaw and pointy teeth! you never seen a man scramble faster than a submarining bully with teeth in the lead!
LOL
Last steps taken May 26, 2014 -- Been rolling along ever since . . . .
LOL over "teeth in the lead".....soo true!!! :-) NM

Sleeping in bed
My concern with our girl sleeping in bed is if she wants down in the night I don't want her to get hurt jumping off our king size bed. Any suggestions
Jack
You just need a bigger bed!
Seriously though, other than crating her or setting up a pen, I can't see how she won't just bug you all night to come into bed. That's about the only thing I did right with Stella - keeping her out of bed at night and out on the sofa. She comes in to "read her book" in the evening and we snuggle in the mornings, but bedtime, she goes out.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.
awww...."read her book"....that is SO cute!!! :-) NM

sweetie just look at that
sweetie just look at that face...i mean c'mon do you really wanna have her sleep on the floor?*lol*
when i got archie he had already gotten used to sleeping in his crate...then he progressed to the floor
but only on a mat...and not just any mat it had to be a particular kind or he would walk all over it very quickly,
smell it,pee on it as a last stand and then completely snub it! *lol*
LOL! I think Meaty is related to Archie!!! :-) They are sooo
funny about their mats and blankies, aren't they? :-) Meaty will sometimes take his wonderful mattress out of his crate
and just try to DESTROY it.......and he USED to pee on them all. the. time. as a puppy.....drove us nuts, but he finally
stopped the peeing. But everrrrry once in a while, he will still pull it out and chew it and try to destroy it...sooo silly!
Have a great day.....(( Hugs ))

*giggling*...k here i was thinking archie was the only one particular w/his mat,*lol*
everytime i see a pic of meaty and sophie i want to smoochie them!!!
you to doll have a good one!
sorry, I'm no help, becuzzzzzzz.......
I wanted to do everything "right" and so I started Sophie off in her crate.......and she was perrrrfectly fine!!! Welll, one
night, cute Daddy decided she "looked sad" in her crate and let her hop up on the bed. I totally know what you mean,
you don't want her to take it as punishment.....If I had to transition Sophie out of our bed, I'd give treats and LOTS
of petting and tummy rubshhh to be sure she didn't know it was a negative thing....good luck! :-)

Aww cupcake
mine does sleep on the bed. However he is fine to go into his bed if we ask him nicely. :) What I would do is if she is good in her own bed for the night, take her out in the morning and reward her with some time on your bed then. Good luck!
I would get a king size bed
I use to have that problem solve it easy. Hubby went. Lol now there all the room for Loulou she needs. I would try a crate with each night rubbing her tummy telling her you love her maybe soft mellow music. I would not do treats she might only sleep there with treats and you don't need another bad habit to break. Weight gain will happen. She might cry at first but don't give in. You have to show her you are boss. It will break you heart at first but don't give in. Only other thing is to get a bigger bed and learn how to sleep on the edge of it. Or you go to the couch! Lol with Loulou she took what she wanted the. For a while decide we were the pain in her sleeping pattern. Lol she move to the couch. Now she took over this couch and we no longer even sit on it. Now she back in my bed since there is only me and Bubba. My American Bulldog will only sleep right on top of my feet. He throw the biggest fit there is. So that where he will stay. Be strong remember all kids at one point have to leave mommy and daddy bed at some point.
Karonelaine
we got king size bed and accepted that this is Chester's bed...
we are just allowed to visit :-)

BIGGER BED
We have resigned ourselves that it's Emma's bed and we must share.
I haven't figured it out in 5 yrs.. we just all snuggle and
sleep squished.. but I will say that my mom cna't handle it so when she watches Bella for me she was like NO MORE in my bed, they only have a queen and we have a king.. anyway I brought a bed for bella and she cried a little bit the first night but after a little while laid down and now sleeps perfect for them.. I tell my huband we can do it also but it's hard to listen to her cry or look at u sad like " why r u in my bed with out me" good luck to u guys..
Tuff Love :)
You just have to be tougher then they are. It can be done. Mine all learned they can sleep anywhere and it doesn't have to be in bed with me. Kohl never sleeps with me, he is too big. He sleeps on the floor in my bedroom or in one of the 2 doggie beds available. Mackenzie also sleeps in a doggie bed on the floor in my bedroom and if he comes to bed with me then I usually let him sleep with me. But he often is late coming too bed, so he has to pick the doggie bed on the floor. Ester is the ONLY one that always come to bed with me, and she always gets to sleep with me, unless she is having her heat. Then she has to sleep in her crate.
Some suggestions: Is she crate trained? If so start with the crate next to your bed. Always a treat when she goes to bed in her crate. She will whine and whine and you may lose some sleep for a few nights. Give her a favorite special stuffie or toy to sleep with, maybe even a special blankie. DO NOT GIVE IN! Once she is going to bed in her crate with no whining then try a doggie bed. I love the Bowser Beds (they are expensive) but they do wash and hold up very well. For a little less expensive bed I get mine from Doghouse Designs (Kathy was a bulldog owner) and these beds also hold up and wash well. http://doghousedesigns1.com/testimonials.html Also a company called http://critterbeds.com/ has nice beds, but I've only purchased their crate pads. But they make a Cube Bed that is a square (crate like) with a round hole opening. I have a friend that bought one of these to try and she said her bullie girls love it. They both get into it and snuggle up, it's den like so that is probably why they like it. Unfortunately this company doesn't have pictures on their site but you could call them.
Good luck! You can do it and she will live.
Thanks guys!
After I typed that message asking for help at 5 am, I picked Cupcake up and placed her on her doggy bed on the floor, where she slept without missing a beat till she woke up at 9. (Correction: When I woke her up at 9. If she had it her way, she'd sleep in till noon.) So maybe the key is letting her fall asleep on my bed, then moving her to her bed on my floor. It doesn't take her long to go to sleep. Around 11pm she gets groggy and heads straight to my bed and sits in front of it and waits. I put her up on it and she collapses and is out like a light. So maybe I'll let her snooze for about 20 min, then place her on the floor. It worked this morning. Maybe it will work tonight... we'll see. If it doesn't, I will try many of your wonderful suggestions about crate training her. I just hate to put her in her crate, she hasn't been in that thing for 4 months. But I will do what I have to do if my little trick doesn't work.
I have a king size bed. It'd be great if she didn't insist on sleeping horizontally across the bed in her "H is for Hell" sleeping position. I will move her into a vertical position and she will scramble to get back into her H is for Hell position, head wedged in my armpit, butt wedged in dad's face.
I think the problem with her is she doesn't know she's a dog. She thinks she's a REAL girl. And that is totally my spoiling. We go to dog park every day, she has 40 toys strewn all over the place, she gets her Christmas presents early, and I have about 500 facebook pictures of her. My friends think I'm crazy. But she's my baby!

We put our boys in their own
We put our boys in their own room when they were still babies. It was just too hard having two bulldogs in bed with us and I really do think they prefer the peace and quiet of their own room. Once the door closes and the room goes dark, they are out!
