The husband and I planned on having a date night tonight (dinner and a movie). I got home before him and so I was in the bedroom getting ready when I heard Fatboy sneezing and gagging in the living room. I went to check on him; he looked confused and couldn't stop the sneezing/gagging. Then I saw a bee crawling on the floor trying to get away. I freaked out and ran into the kitchen for the benedryl. His face did start to swell a little but I was able to give him one. When I noticed swelling in his face I really freaked out. I called the husband, told him to hurry home, searched Fatboy for a stinger; nothing.
When my husband got home he took a look at the bee (I smashed it with rage and fury for hurting my Fattie) and saw the stinger. Again I looked all over his body and inside his mouth; nothing. No sting or anything. We thought he started doing better as far as breathing but then his breathing got worse. Luckily we live two blocks away from a vet's office and took him right in. They gave him a steroid shot, some extra benedryl (the kind I had was only 25 mg and he only received one pill).
So all in all we waited about an hour because they wanted to keep an eye on him. He's doing ok now but they did say to watch for any possible delayed reactions. I didn't know a delayed reacton from a bee sting was possible. Anyhow what a scary ordeal.
Fatboy aka Stinky :)
Oh my!
I'm glad Fatboy is okay! That is so scary. I'm dreading summer because of this.

That's scary
Wonder if there is a nest and they warm up and come out?

Mean people still suck
We were wondering this too. It's still winter here but the
temps reached 80 yesterday. So my husband is going to look tomorrow for a next. Every house we've lived in we've had problems with bees. It's a real PITA
Fatboy aka Stinky :)
Paranoid
When we lived in another house, I saw a couple of wasp in odd places in the house. One place was right near where our 3 lb preemie daughter would sleep so I freaked out. Orkin came out and checked everywhere...attic, crawlspaces etc. The guy looked for spots that could be potential hot spots for bees and other bugs to find their way in. The Orkin man was there for a good hour and he never charged us a dime. Very reassuring. I know you are in another state but maybe Orkin or someone similar would come out to check around for you guys. I wouldn't have had a good night's sleep if it hadn't been for them.

Wow that is scary! Thank
Wow that is scary! Thank goodness you were there when it happened and able to react quickly!! I will admit though, I laughed at the "smashed the bee with rage and fury" part cuz I would have done the same:)
Wow that is scary
Glad to see you were home and got him to the vet
