How much am I gonna screw up Mav's tummy?

Well for most all of his life I have been feeding Maverick Natural Balance Bison and Sweet Potato. Well with the effects of the current recall it looks like pretty much everyone has pulled all their inventory of this off the shelf and we only have a couple of days worth of food left in the current bag. So it looks like we are going to have to make a switch pretty abruptly without much time to mix the new and old food. He has always had quite a few problems and it terrifies me to do anything that will shock his little bully system but it doesn't look like we are going to have much of a choice. I was considering going to the natural balance Alpha Lamb/ Chicken/ Rabbit since this was not made in the plant that was effected by the recall.

Just Curious what people have experienced in this situation?

Thanks

Nick

A few suggestions

Have you ever used any probiotics? If you add some to the new food it should help with digestion while he adjusts. I use them daily. Or a scoop of plain nonfat yogurt or plain pumpkin can also help firm up stools if thats what you are worried about. Good luck!

Food Changes

When I was feeding kibble I never had a problem changing brands without mixing, if it was a good quality food.  Some brands like Natures Variety recommend rotating protein sources and changing it up.

So since you don't have a choice, stick with the same brand and just add a tablespoon of pumpkin.  You may have soft serve stools, but then again you may not.

Good Luck :)

LOL!!!!!!

Is there another w/ the same protein source?

Is there another brand that uses Bison? compare ingredients, you might get lucky - *fingers are crossed*

Not all dogs have tummy problems with food changes

Maybull has an iron stomach, just like her mommy. She can switch around to different foods without a problem. Your dog may not have a problem and if there is one, it might be minor – like gas.
