Anyone care to share how they got thir pups to start taking water? Mine are a month old, they have been eating mush but don't seem to interested in water. Trying to wean them. I put some on their lips and then palce them near the water pan so their lips touch it but they don't seem to want it. Is this the norm for one month old pups?
Try flavor
You might try flavoring the water with a little low salt chicken broth. That miaght get them interested.
Water
At four weeks mine didn't like the taste of water either but when they finally caught on they usually drank too much!!!! lol They will don't fret since they also get water in the mush!

Water
I leave a small, very shallow bowl in with them at all times. I found a very small water tower works well that I can wire to the side of their pen or box. Be sure it is shallow so they can't drown if they fall in or spill much if they tip it over. If the mush is very wet and they are still occ nursing on Mom they don't yet need water thus they don't drink. Try pushing their face toward the water after Mom has been away for a while before you feed them. Once one starts drinking the othesr will follow. Also try leaving a bowl of dry puppy kibble in with them. You will be amazed how soon they start eating it. In fact some will soon prefer it over the mush. The goal is to get them eating dry as soon as possible. They need the calories from the food--they don't need to fill their bellies with eater. Of course there is always a puppy that thinks the kibble bowl is to sleep in.
