Hip Dysplasia

I'm new to this forum.  I've been searching all over the web and i'm looking to talk to someone who has experience with a dog who has Hip Dysplasia.  My 6 month ol Ameican Bulldog girl is syffering.  She's getting a full round of xrays to see what's actually going on.  Our vet is putting her under to get the best pictures.

No experience - but best of luck

Good luck with your baby :( Sorry to hear about its hips :(

Yay it's pretty rough.  We

Yay it's pretty rough.  We actually ahve 2.  We have 1 who just turned 1 Lucy Lu, and her half sister Babe Ruth (6 month).  Babe's the one with the limping issues.  It started New years eve.  We brougt her to the ER on New years day and the Dr just felt her up and said nothing was broken or torn.  That night she picked up a bug and started getting diaarhea so my hubby brought her to our Vet on tuesday and he gave her some diaarhea meds and pain pills and he said he is 90% sure she has hip dysplasia.  He wanted to spay her this week and do the xrays at the same time however we said no, that we want the xrays first so she's not in double pain.  It just sucks waiting.

Hip dysplacia doesn't just "start"

sounds more like a torn ligament. Dysplasia is degenerative, taking time to develop. If your dog had no symptoms prior to New Years Eve, my guess would be that it is an injury to ligaments or muscle.

Lots of dogs have some level of dysplasia and live long active lives without surgery. If your vet is convinced that it is dysplasia, get a second opinion. I had a similar problem with one of my dogs, he suddenly began limping, vet diagnosed it as hips, I was sure he was wrong. Got a second opinion, dog had a torn ACL, had surgery for that. He lived to 13 years old with no problems again. And the second vet told me that yes the dog had dysplasia but that was not the cause of the sudden discomfort/limping.

Good luck

I completely agree.

If no pain or issue before the New Year, then I highly doubt it is "sudden onset" hip displaysia. That doesn't happen that way. I would highly recommend a second opinion if any type of surgery is mentioned by your vet.

One of my girls has hip dysplasia

Six months is very young for that kind of diagnosis.

My girl was diagnosed with hip dysplasia as a young puppy.

I put her on 1000 mg of Glucosamine immediately. That was when she was 4 months old. She is 6 years old now and fine. I did not believe the vet when he told me, I did a lot of research, found this site, found a new vet from this site, and Sophia has been fine ever since. Puppies have loose hips sometimes, it doesn't mean it is hip dysplasia.
