We took Maverick to the vet today because he has been throwing up his food first thing in the morning. He has been doing this for a couple of weeks. The vet did blood work and everything seems to be just fine. Then he called in the other vet in their practice to look at Mav's nose. After pinching and poking and prodding,it turns out that Mav needs surgery to fix his stenotic nares. The left side is about almost completely obstructed. While they are doing this surgery, the want to look at his soft palette and if they need to fix that too then they will. I was not prepared for all of this today. Maverick will be 3 next month and this will be his first major surgery. The poor baby got a cheeseburger on the way back home. He was so good during all of this.
ay cutie...i'm sure he'll be
ay cutie...i'm sure he'll be fine...bet he loved getting that cheeseburger!lol
smoochies the scrunchy faces
Simone just reminded me, while they are under....
that would be the time to get a full xray - as they need to put bullies out, for total xrays - Just something to think about (for future issues)

Nares
Glad to hear he will be breathing better soon. Kilmore and Winnie both had their nares and soft palates done, without any issues. Oliver and Rocco will be going in soon for their neutering and nares. Rocco we know will need the soft palate done and they will also check Oliver's. It's always easier getting eveything done at once. Good luck!
Sarah
Poor guy. I am sure he will be feeling much better though.
It isn't hard surgery from what I have heard. But no experience here. Best wishes to you guys:-)

I would say the problem is most likely the palate
And not the nares. I would not touch the nares but instead evaluate the palate and saccules. When a dog is throwing up like that it's probably because the airway in the throat is obstructed and not the airway in the nose. He may need his palate clipped and his saccules and tonsils removed. But, again I think widening the nares is unnecessary.
Will be in my thoughts
I would listen to the folks here. And ask more Questons. But will have him in my heart and prayers.
