Still super new to being bulldog parents (first dog ever!) and we have the little guy on Taste of Wild food and WOW the gas is horrible! He seems to like the food but don't know how much longer we can take it. For a 25 pound dude he can sure stink up the house. We've had him since Christmas and he's been on Taste of the Wild for about 5 or 6 weeks so not sure if it's even advisable to change his food so soon. I am assuming this is all going to be trail and error. Getting to the point soon that we have to purchase more food so I am curious as to what input other bully parents have.
On a totally different note, he is shedding a lot (or what I feel is alot since I have no prior experience). Wondering if this might have something to do with the food as well. My friend did tell me that they will shed more than you think so I am not overly concerned with that.
Loving the little guy, although he is a ton of work, but totally worth it. Waiting for the day for him to just cuddle away, right now he seems to busy to want to cuddle.
Gas.. ahhh yes... house clearer !
Gizmo had it really bad on the Blue Buffalo Salmon -
We changed her to Taste of the Wild Salmon and its about 1/10th as bad.
She can still clear a room, but its not as often -
Shedding, yea, they do that :) and it seems as they are backwards from normal breeds, shed heavier in the winter. Brush daily if possible :)

Oliver used to let at least
Oliver used to let at least 4-5 room clearers out a day that literally made your nose burn when he was on TOTW. We changed to Orijen 6 fish and still had several stinky farts a day but not nearly as bad. Now he is on Acana pacific, mostly because he didnt think he needed as much protein as the Orijen and because we can get it from the pet store close to us. The gas is almost non existent now, sometimes I think I actually miss it. Dont know if its the food or just that now that he is older his digestive system is working better. I was also alarmed at how much he used to shed but I think its totally normal. I started him on salmon oil because of that and cant say if it is helping or not but it is good for him anyways. Good luck
lol... my archie let out a
lol... my archie let out a few stink bombs too...
wasn't always that bad-but you knew it when it was him,lol
as for shedding i've heard rubber brush and use a towel
to rub him direction opposite of hair growth
Jax
I really think it is a combination of the dog and the food. Both Jax and Ozzy are on the same food. Ozzy "fluffs" but they don't really smell. Jax, on the other hand, will clear a room.
Its likely the food
How old is this puppy? I would try a different protein source within the TOTW family (to start). Salmon may be too rich for him. While others talk about horrible farts...I have not experienced that with my dogs. Unless they get something that just does a number on their tummy. Like the time my ex fed Norbert shrimp. We were going boating the next day and he about had us all overboard. At the moment the venison I'm feeding is having a little impact on my dogs. But on a regular basis mine don't have gas. My ex-husband had far more of a problem then my dogs and always blamed the dogs.
Excessive shedding also can be food related. If this is a puppy he may be shedding his puppy coat. Unfortunately even though they are short coated they do shed.
I fed TOTW (Salmon) once and it did NOT work at all on one of my dogs. Staph infection within 4 weeks that cost $500 bucks to clear up and in the middle of show season no less. Thankfully I caught it quickly before she lost too much hair. So while it's a good food it just might not work for you.
I agree with Deb, this is possibly a food issue.
TOTW did not work for my girl. She had terrible itchies and shed a lot. I tried several of the varieties of TOTW before giving up all the way and going to a different food. I am now feeding one that a lot of people would poo poo, me included a year or so ago, but she is better on it than she has been on anything in her 6 years of life! It is Purina One Lamb and Rice. I ran out of TOTW one time, no feed store near me that was opepn, so I ran to the grocery store and bought the only thing I thought might be good enough for her. She gobbled it right down. I then forgot twice in a row to go buy TOTW, and ran to the grocery each time for the Purina One. Sophia did SO well on teh Purina that I put all 4 of my dogs on it, and they have been on it ever since. All are doing fantastic.
For gas, you can try a tablespoon of plain, fat free yogurt (I buy the Wally world brand). I give a tablespoon twice a day in each meal. My dogs love it and they are pretty gas free.

No issues here thank goodness
We have Jack on Canidae, All Life Stages, and we don't have any issues with gas. Jack has had two moments of bad gas and that is when he got some table scraps that he shouldn't have been given. (My husband can't resist Jack.) But I think its one of those things where you might just have to try different things until you find something that works. When we switched Jack from the breeder's food to the Canidae, we did it over a one month period. But Jack was 7 wks when we did this. Had he been older I probably would have been able to make the switch in 2 weeks. Good luck!

TOTW caused horrible gas for Harley-
He has always been fed Natural Balance Fish and Potato but we decided to try the Taste of the Wild salmon formula because it was less expensive and a bit more available close by. Could not take the gas. Would literally clear a room. So while TOTW is a good quality food it did not work for us.

As to the brush question,
As to the brush question, http://www.petco.com/product/100491/KONG-Zoom-Groom-Brush.aspx was recommended to me awhile back and it has worked well with Sissy. The neat thing about it is you can also use it during bathtime to help work in the soap and get rid of some loose fur. And it's gentle so Sissy just falls asleep while I'm using it on her. My daughter can even use it and I dont have to worry about her brushing too hard and hurting her with it.
As to the other problem, some of it is just a Bulldog thing:) Like others have mentioned, I also feed Taste of the Wild and Sissy can definitely clear the room!
gassey salmon
only time Kippah had gas issues was with Salmon and Sweet Potatoe, and she would only eat it when she was super hungry. So once we replaced that and put her back on Lamb then we were fine. She does get Omegas in her food now, which we are using AvoDerm. Anyway, long story short, it seemed that the Salmon was the culprit.

TOTW makes a lamb version that is a great food...
we feed it to Chester. You can put some plain, live culture yogurt on his food, that sometimes helps with gas.
Fat boy could clear out a room when we had him on TOTW
It's definitely all diet that causes gas (unless its a medical issue). We've got him on HK now and he has been virtually gas free ever since.
Fatboy aka Stinky :)
