I sure love my Brucey but boy did he work my nerves today!!! He pooped in the house then flicked it with his back paws and it got on my walls!!! My hubby took him out this morning so maybe he didn't give Beuce enough time to poop twice because well thats just how Bruce does it. Then he peed on my carpet 3 times!! Not quite sure about the set back. Well after he peed the 3rd time I went to petco to buy a urine cleaner and of course Bruce went. He was acting nuts!!! Barking at every dog crazy like and was super hyper. Ok I understand he is a puppy but he has never acted like that. I walk him at the park while kids play almost everyday. Well today he just wouldn't follow. I went left he went right and he was just different. When we got home I put him in his crate for a nap and then he peed in his crate!!! He ha neve done this. Hummmm am I missing something or was he just being stubborn today?
Happy married mom of 4 and first time mom to my fur baby BRUCE!!!!!!! HE WAS BORN 2/2/12!!!!
....
Sorry for miss spelled words. I'm on my phone ;)
Ahhh puppy frustrations ! I'm also in that club !
but I am off to Barnes and Noble today to pick up to books
"How to Housebreak Your Dog in 7 Days" (its only 8.00 so who knows, I dont believe it can be done that quick...but for 8 bucks?) and the second is
How to Raise the Perfect Dog: Through Puppyhood and Beyond by Cesar MillanWe take Hershey out after every meal/water/nap - other than that, its about every 90 minutes 'just in case' the little turd will come in from the potty area after doing a #2 crawl up in Gizmo's bed, and let loose with a steady stream !
Dottie caught him in the act last night - S.O.B. ! LOL and when I told her about his accidents last week she told me 'You arent doing something right, not paying attention to him or something' now he's had accidents in HER presense (while I'm out in the yard) - I guess she must not be doing it right either LOL (She gave me STINK EYE for that comment!)
Off to Barnes and Noble ! I do better with a REAL book in hand vice on the PC all of the time.

Too much freedom
crate him when he can't be watched or keep a leash on him tied to your belt.. Could also be a urinary infection you can bring a sample to the vet for them to check. Guessing its not an infection though.
*giggling*...sorry sweetie
*giggling*...sorry sweetie not at you...it seems that brucey is
just being true to his trait...and ofcourse training will come in handy...

Yes a bit too much freedom.
Yes a bit too much freedom. You really do have to keep an eagle eye out on them this young because you give them one second and then they are squating somewhere. Bruce came from a pet store too right? I have read that it can be more difficult to housetrain these dogs because they have been going to the bathroom where they live. Of course this is still very early, Oliver didn't know to go to the door until about a month after we got him and not fully trained until he was probably 4 months old. Good luck.
Oh...forgot to add he is
Oh...forgot to add he is ridiculously cute
I'm reading 'How to Housebreak your dog in 7 Days'
its an $8.00 investment from Barnes and Noble - it makes sense - limit their area, only put down food and water at 'feeding times' (Until the puppy is housebroken, then water can be left out all of the time) strict schedule -
Eat - Potty break - if no business done - confine for 15 minutes (Confining as in his X-pen or Kennel) back outside

sorry only on page 22 right now :P

Thanks peers!
So today I'm going to not free water feed him. I always leave a bowl of water out and I have a water bottle connected to his carte I think ive been over doing it. Lol. I keep my air on 63 so living in a two story the house stays at about 70....so he shouldn't overheat. I'm going to go get that book too!!! Wow this can be frustrating but at least I'm not the only one. He was only at the puppy store for 2 days but I don't no how the "breeder" and I use that term loosely kept up with him.....thanks people!!!!! I see more cleaning and carpet scrubbing in the future. I do think I'm going to try harder leasing him to me.
Here was my setup for Kohl (Pic)
until he was 6 months old. Mind you I was his breeder and he was started with potty training as soon as the litter was old enough to walk, so they weren't left in a pen where they had to sleep and potty. They always had separate spaces to potty.
So as you can see in the pictures my big dogs liked to sleep in his bed. They are not locked in there.
The setup is an ex-pen with a crate in it, with a blanket on 1 side and newpapers on the other side. I work so I was gone 10 hrs a day, but for the first 6 months I came home at noon for potty breaks. All his siblings were gone by 10 weeks. He NEVER pooped during the day in his pen, I did limit his water during the day whaen I wasn't home. I would have a peepee accident maybe until he was 4 months.
When I wasn't able to watch him every second then he was either in his crate or ex-pen.
All of my bulldogs have been very easy to housebreak. They do tend to be bedwetters and markers, especially the girls. So for years I never had nice cute beds for them, now I have beds all over the house and they never pee on them. I have MacKenzie (9 yrs) who was very easy to house break, but I was home with him at that time, Ester who was also easy and Kohl.
I think it has so much to do with how they were raised. When they learn that peeing and pooing where they eat and sleep they have no idea what is right or wrong.
AND he's just a baby, going through a lot of changes, from a pen and a petstore to a house that has a lot of stimulation.
;)
Today was much better!! No accidents. I'm not sure why he had a bad day the other day but what I do no is that all the kids r ours of school and them being so young it hasn't been as peaceful. So I think that he was overstimulated and is was I!!! I'm not giving him as much water and I kept him on a leash while he was out of the crate. I do notice he has been moody with kids and wants my full attention but we will just have to take it one day at a time!! Patience is key and this problem will be over only if I work at it with him. I keep telling Bruce "we can do this baby"'!!!!! And he wags his little butt!!!
Puppies need naps
We often think that if we keep a puppy active all day that they will sleep longer/better at night, but dogs need quiet time to sleep or chill out during the day. Kind of like keeping a 2 year old child up and revved all day with no nap, they can get pretty grumpy. Bruce would probably benefit from a couple of 2 hour naps in his crate kept in a quiet room.
Be patient and lower your housetraining expectations, he is very young, you have a long way to go.
