I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for a good bully food. We've been feeding Royal Canine, but I'm reading a lot on here that is showing it's not as good as it should be. And while cost isn't an issue, paying $60 for a bag of sub-par food isn't appealing. We tried simply nourish, but the pieces were too small for Tank. He's up to 80lbs now!
Wouldn't know that he just got a brandnew $60 bed! My forever puppy Tank.
80lbs?
Whoa, that's a biggggg boy !
Is that a healthy weight for him? We have Gizmo on Taste of The Wild Salmon (Grain Free) her skin isnt as dry, but it hasnt helped any with her Flank Alerpieca (Bald spots on her sides :P)
Last steps taken May 26, 2014 -- Been rolling along ever since . . . .

I asked the vet the same
I asked the vet the same thing. They said because he still maintains a 'V' shape, he's still good. But they don't want him any bigger than this. We expected some weight gain since we got him fixed. Also, they are saying part of it could be because we feed RC, they protien count may be too high for my fat boy. Either way, he still thinks he's a lap puppy! :)

How much are you feeding?
If you're not measuring his food then you should start. IMO, the RC is not a good food. I suggest a good grain free food like Taste of the Wild or California Natural.
I would start out giving 3/4 cup twice a day with no treats in between except for healthy things like raw carrots, apples or green beans. He also needs more exercise.
We have an issue measuring
We have an issue measuring his food. My husband and I are dual military, and our scheduals are never steady. We tried for a couple of months, but he would start chewing on things in the house when we were late because he was hungry, and we didn't feel it was right to kennel him for 10-14hours a day. Treats wise, he already only gets all natural treats.
With TotW, and California Natural, are the larger pieces? Tank doesn't do well with smaller kibble, it gets stuck in his cheeks and we get more of it on the floor than he actually manages to eat.

I understand
I work a 12 hour shift. I put my puppy in an exercise pen attached to a kennel while I'm gone.
I would say the size of the kibble is average and none of my 4 bulldogs have a problem with the size.
But, if you want him to lose weight and 80 lbs. is very overweight, you need to measure his food every meal and weigh him about twice a month. Bulldogs should have a pear shape. You should be able to look down on them and see a noticeable dip at the waist. Also, when you run your hands over their ribs, you should be able to feel their ribs.
X-pen
I bought one for my girl, who is blind, so she doesn't get hurt while I'm away. It gives him quite a bit of room, much more than a kennel. His chewing stuff while you're away might be boredome too - less than hunger...
I agree with the others that your guys is a bit "round" and could stand to lose a few pounds (who of us couldn't!). I don't know much about food choices but it sounds like you've got some good suggestions. I know the addition of green beans to the diet, like Deb said, is a great way to reduce their calories while filling them up.
Best of luck - he's a handsome boy!!
ay...he looks nice and comfy

I think you'll see weight
I think you'll see weight loss when you switch foods. RC made my boys gain weight, too, even though I measured and stopped giving them treats alltogether. We are on a prescription diet now because of cancer issues but before that we tried Orijen and Taste of the Wild. Orijen sells really small, inexpensive bags to try but if you have a Pet People shop nearby, you can go in and ask for sample-size bags of Orijen and TOTW, to see which kibble size/flavor is best for your pup.
Also, mixing in green beans (or broccolli!) is an excellent idea. Our vet recommended it for Cesar when he tipped the scales at 66 lbs and started to show signs of stiffness in his hips. Losing just five pounds made a huge difference. I buy the frozen stuff and steam it in the microwave. Then I divide it into smaller containers to keep in the fridge. Microwaving a container at meal time only takes 15 to 20 seconds and our boys think they're getting a treat.

We're going to try to switch
We're going to try to switch to TOTW. Tank doesn't eat plain veggies. And he only eats green beans with butter/marginern, but that is way too bad for him.
Thank you everyone, for all of the input! Hopefully switching food helps, I dont want my baby boy to be in bad health.
Smooshy face! He actually drags this bed through the house, to wherever my husband and I are for the moment. Too cute!!
