Hi All,
It's been a while since I have been on this site... but I always know where to come when I need some solid advice!
I am renting a house on a very big property which is not fenced in. My pup has been very good adjusting to the new house... until recently. She has always stayed on our property but recently has been wandering into the neighbors yards and following people as they walk down the street. Being that it is a rental (and lots of land to cover) I can't fence the entire yard. Something needs to be done and I am trying to figure out the most economical (and humane) way to keep my pup from the road. I was thinking a free standing "dog pen" or something but would really hate to restrict her to a small area being that she enjoys the yard so much. However, if it comes down to her saftey.. thats what we will do. Do any of you use an electric fence? I found this on home depot http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&productId=202229447&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&MERCH=REC-_-product-1-_-202229448-_-202229447-_-N&locStoreNum=1229
Up to ANY suggestions!
We both greatly appreciate any help!!!

Runner
When we first got Brewer we rented. The thing we used and loved was a runner. We put two ends one by the door and another half way into the yard and hooked up a cord in between. We then hooked up a cord to that cord and he was able to run the whole entire yard while being on the lease. It really worked for us and was about $50.
if ya use a runner - use a harness
attach to a harness, its safer than to the collar

Lowes has decrative fencing, that is 'temporary'
What we did, was created a Pee Patch for Gizmo - she too would run off to say hi to the neighbors - so we fenced in the patio, and about 10 feet deep into the yard.
The fencing is temporary but looks really good - you drive a spike in the ground, place the fence piece, put a rod through the fence into the spike - instant removable fence :)
Let me get the link of what I'm talking about - Link didnt work
go to Lowes.com
search on
Garden Zone 47-7/8" x 40-1/2" Powder Coated Steel Fence Panelthis is the panel part, the pole is separate. but you can make it as big or little as you want for your pup.
I'm not sure how 'economical' you need to get, but it is removable (big bonus at a rental property) - I'll try to take a picture at home tonight if the light is still up

Hubby put in some fencing pretty easily....from Lowe's--
it's called "welded wire fencing"....he said it comes in 50 foot rolls. He drove metal stakes into the ground about 1 1/2 to 2 feet....he put it up
very quickly, and it's been great! LOVE being able to let Meaty and Sophie roam freely and safely now!!! We had the same situation as
you, not wanting to fence the entire area since we live on an acre.....good luck!! :-)
this is what it looks like:
this is Sophie, "HELPING" Daddy put the fence up by chewing on his level.....
