Winston, I'm assuming, is named after the one and only Winston Churchill. I say that I'm assuming because he came to us from rescue with his name and I felt that since it is the only thing he could claim as "his" it wouldn't be right to take that away from him too. And, honestly, it fits. :)
several years before i got my archie i was driving by the highway w/my now ex hubby and there was this huge billboard ad of wawanesa insurance w/a bulldog on it...keep in mind i have wanted a bulldog for many years before that even...anyway i point to the billboard and tell my ex...look..there's my archibald!i don't even know where that even came from but i knew if i ever got a bully he'd definitely have an original name, lol!!!
i got him when he was a about a yr old about a month after i separated...he was the best $1K i ever spent, better than ANY therapy anyone would ever want or need...believe it or not the ppl who had him had named him "maurice"...so as we were sitting quietly out in our front porch getting to know each other and ppl watching...i was petting him and i say,"hey archie...?",he just turned and looked right in my eyes....and came a lil closer to me...,sorry getting a lil choked up...,anyway the rest as they say is history!
sorry about the long story

we had two others with O names, Oscar and Oreo, so my sig was Kathy and the O's. We lost Oscar and Oreo to cancers and we adopted Chester. He was born with a dislocated radius in his front arm and after surgery, he walked with a little limp. So he was christened Chester after the character in Gunsmoke who limped. His AKC name is "Doc's Been Shot" which is what Chester always said on that show, and I am showing my age. Newman started out as Ringo, but when we adopted him, he just looked like a Newman. And yes, every one that meets him does the Seinfeld "helloooooo Newman."

Absolutely Mister Farley Blake.....He got his name after Chris Farley because he's short, fat and funny. The Absolutely Mister came from the breeder (He was Mister Bojangles) and Blake is a a Coast Guard Cutter (The Henry Blake).
Our other dog Idawalley Mae Boudreaux has a round about Coast Guard name as well. She was named after Idawalley Zorada Lewis a very famous Coastguardswoman who save 18 lives at Lime Rock Lighthouse, Mae is just cause Ida Mae sounds good and Boudreaux is the kennel she is from.
Well, turns out he had the name when we got him at 7 months, figured it was to late to change. But in spanish (mexico spanish) its a tough name. Turns out CHAPO is the modern era CAPONE of mexico, and I´ve seen a few bulldogs with the name Capone; not praising it in any way.... just wanting to let ya´ll know what it means. The word comes from SINALOA a state in mexico and it means short and stalky. Doesn´t he look MEAN. HAHAHAHAH Far from it!

it's too late, I'm sleepy! But I love all the FUN stories! Our babies' name stories are that we wanted a bully for a while, and hubbs always thought ARCHIMEDES
would be a cool name for a bulldog (I always forget the history of who Archimedes was and too tired to
google...lol) ANYHOOO, I think it was me that thought this name was also PERFECT, cuz I knew bulldogs
tended to be big and "MEATY", and of course, that was a shortened version of his "real" name :-)
We knew eventually we'd get a wittle girl bully, and hubbs came up with BUBBLES!!! I thought that was
such a CUTE name!!! Once we met our sweet Sophie; however, it didn't seem to fit. We considered SO
many names, and I just thought she looked like a SOPHIEEE!!!!! It is SO funny, though---for some unknown
reason, hubbs calls her TRISCUIT......Early on, when we saw how much LOUDER and RAMBUNCTIOUS
she was compared to Meaty as a pupp, I declared her middle name as "RAPSCALLION" ....!!! :-)
