Dozers first experience with fireworks= no good

with 4th of july around the corner,

how does everyone keep there little babies comfortable without freaking out during fireworks????

. i live literally around the corner from a church and starting tonight is the town fair, without knowing ( or just not paying attention lol ). they started a firework show and me and mr D were sitting on the couch and the next thing i know i had a 55 lbd fatty in my lap, shaking and freaking out.. and he hasnt left my side all night.. So i was just wondering how everyone deals?.

Thanks :)

Try some rescue remedy...

available at health food stores.  12 drops right on the tongues usually calms them.  Also, put on some loud music and if you have a large closet or room that doesn't have windows or doors or a basement, stay down there with him to minimize the noise.  We used to do this with Oreo when she would freak during storms.

Jax

We were outside last night and there were some fireworks off in the distant (so they weren't loud) and Jax was not happy--he was barking and staying real close--then he just ran back in the house.

poor guy!

You could always ask your vet for an Rx to help him through the weekend (NOT ACE though...that's terrible for bullies).  Or, to avoid the vet visit cost you could always try a couple benadryl.  My vet recommends 1mg of medicine for each pound of weight (for allergy purposes), so if you are close to that ratio, or a little over, it'll make him nice and sleepy.  I also second the idea of having some radio on or white noise to help drown out the noise from the fireworks.

Zimmer is petrified too...

he will hide in the bathroom or laundry room (both rooms have no windows) or try to get under the bed, all the while he's shaking.

I've tried to divert his attention - give him a new toy, throw some treats on the floor & let him find them, etc.  But usually he's just so scared it's useless.  I feel so bad for them, the noise must really really scare them :((

All three of mine doesn't like them either.

I won't have to worry this year. I was told no one in texas would be able to shoot them over it being to dry here. They are band this year.

Loud music/tv

and his most favorite inside game to distract him.  Onslow used to be scared too, but he's fine with loud noises now.

Those are all super awesome

Those are all super awesome idea!.. im deff going to look into those drops... We live in a basement, so there very windows, there super small and theres only 2 in the bedroom, luckily we were in the tv room... But they were right over the house so even being down there it was extremely loud!. i live on long island in ny.. and where i am its a wooded area, so im hoping on the fact that 1- there illegal and 2- with all trees around im praying it wont be that noisy. Thanks everyone!. appreciate it!

We watch movies with a lot of noise in them

I've never had a dog that was totally relaxed at the sound of fireworks. Some bark at the noise, others shake. My husband and I haven't been to a fireworks display in years, I won't leave the dogs alone.

Good luck this week-end

love that "thundershirt" dog w/ the English accent! :-) Also,

everyone's ideas sound good...sorry Dozer was so scared!  Meaty gets scared, too. If there are lots of fireworks this

weekend, he'll go to his crate like he does w/ thunderstorms.....awww......poor babies get so scared  :-(
