So dozer is 14 months old, he weighs about 65 pounds, Is that too much?. I was reading online that his hairloss problem could be related to his health issuses... hes been losing so much hair over the last few weeks that u can see the black spots on his skin :(. I cant get him into the vet until the new year.. hes acting fine, happy jumpy, playing around like the little spitfire that he his, so im not really concerned too much, more curious than anything?.
Thanks,
Nik and D

Trace is 3 and weighs about 65 lbs
He's very wide and has thick heavy bones. Your boy should be fine if he has a nice defined waist. If not, he may be a little heavy.
What are you feeding Dozer? I've found that food has a lot to do with hair loss.
Is it Flank Alopecia ? Gizmo's sides are nearly bare
Nicole -
Gizmo has Flank Alopecia (from what we can tell) both of her sides (Flanks) are nearly bald, and you can see her skin underneath (she has black skin, sorta looks funny) Its getting thinner due to 'shedding' season.
Could this be what Dozer is experiencing ? with the thinning hairloss?

Weight
Slugger is 86 lbs. at 8 yrs, 2 months and he is built.. not fat. As far as the thinning hair and dark skin, Slugger doesn't
have any hair loss or dark skin patches but I had a female a few years ago that did.
I would have your vet check their thyroid. If it comes back normal, have him treat the symtoms
as he would if it were their thyroid. I always ask my vet to treat the symptoms and if it clears up
all is well.
hello
Hmm, well im confused if its the food, or honestly if its just the season.... He didnt lose any hair over the summer, Then has soon as the tnemps dropped into the 60s at the beg of nov, he just started losing his hair, At first it wasnt that bad, but not i cant play with him without having a huge bulk of hair in my hands...
Yes Rick its deff on his sides and down his legs as well, Hes not really itchy or anything...
I have him on the pedigree natural's... he was on it the whole summer and liek i said was doing fine till the wather chnaged, he didnt have this last year.. But then again i didnt have him until the beg of jan...
He's decently built in his front area but then as u work your way back hes a little chunka butt, it was just tooo hot to walk him all summer, then i got lazy... then startesd to walk him. but then got sick last month and just started to walk him again this week. I knw i gotta get himin a little better shape, i just didnt know how if he is.... overeight he is :(.
Thanks guys.

I doubt its the food... but I've been known to be wrong :)
I have heard of a Vet prescribed foo out there, that 'stimulates hair growth' (?!?!?!!?) I dont know about that, sounds like maybe a sales gimmic -
From my reading, our bullies shed in the fall and spring - the Flank alopecia usually shows up then, and it can disappear and reappear again - the only thing I have found out, they THINK its due to lack of Sunshine / Vit D deficiancy. I dont know for sure what to do about it :(

melatonin will help
But please talk to your vet about getting a thyroid check done just to make sure the hair loss isn't a symptom of something else. I know in the winter our bullies don't get enough sunshine and as a result they can seasonally lose hair on their sides as a result (sort of counterintuitive, you'd think they'd lose hair in the summer and get thick coats in the winter...not so with bullies).
After your vet checks to make sure nothing is going on with Dozer medically you should talk to him about melatonin to help with the hair loss (Rick, this would probably help Gizmo as well).
And honestly, I don't know much about Pedigree Natural, but I know as a rule of thumb that Pedigree does not produce the best quality food. It might be worth considering finding another good quality grain free kibble for Dozer.
