Well after sleeping on the mattress directly on the floor thanks to two knee surgeries we finally got a new bed. The best is lower profile only 24 inches from floor to top of mattress but I fear that is still too high for lola.. She can easily jump up there but I dont want her to constantly take that impact up and down.. she already has about 17 stairs to go up to get to the bedroom..
Anyone have any recomendations for pet stairs/ramps.. I think from what I see most stairs will do the job but most dogs just dont want anything to do with them.. I am figureing the deeper and wider the step the better for going down.. I really only need two steps and she can step on the matterss as a last step.. I would build some but after wood and failed labor I would be out more money..
Lastly Im I worrying too much is 24 inch that tall?
I bought Stella some for the sofa
And it's about that high. I figure anything to minimize the strain on her joints is a good thing. I didn't think she'd use them, but she took to them right away. I think she knew they were for her :)
I have a question too. We
I have a question too. We have recently started allowing Oliver on our bed. Its probably just over 2 feet off the ground so he is able to jump on and off. He lands pretty softly off but he is so young I want to make sure we dont cause any long term joint problems. Do you guys think stairs are necessary?
I have the same worry
My bed is 23 inches high. I try to not let Mr. Higgins on it, but after my knee surgery we hung out together on it. Of course he is in heaven. When I go out I block it with pillows, upside down chairs but he somehow still jumps right on top of all the pillows anyway. I think because he became used to it. He has a lovely" bowser bed" truly one of the cadillacs of dog beds but he has decided my bed is more comfortable. I think emotionally they feel closer to us on our beds. Now I allow him up on invitation but still find him on it when I arrive home. He has had 3 knee surgeries and has no patella on one side so I worry he will further damage that knee, or both.
Oh I forgot
He will have nothing to do with dog stairs. I tried every trick known to man. That would have been the perfect solution.
I have a ramp
Our bed is obnoxiously high, I'm barely lucky I get onto it hahah and I'm 5'2, we got a ramp from petco because. We'd have to have specially made stairs for D that would and costed us an insane amount of money... He deff did not like it at first, but an hour and a whole. Inch of treats later he's a champ.. It folds so in the morning I can put it away and at night I use the handle and fold it and place it on the floor.. We got ours at petsmsrt!. Good luck!.
