This doesnt make sense to me - mebbe the breeders can explain

(Dont tell Dottie, but I have Puppyitis so I've been looking at lots of puppies to curb the urge(?) LOL

anyway.

within 1 litter you have 8 Pups -  4 males and 4 females -  I can understand a price difference between the sexes - but from there what makes 1 pup more or less expensive ?  I guess it depends on their coloration and markings -

but what is most preferred? least preferred? When a breeder sees a newly born pup, (all are equally healthy) which pup brings the feeling of 'We just got a greating looking one because (insert reason here).

I know this 'Tri-color' is the current rage, and it isnt a good thing.

How can they have 8 pups and just (Seemingly to me) be random in prices? I know its not random, there has to be a reason, and that reason is elluding me !    cause as you can tell, I'm not puppy literate :P Beyond the obvious health - I perfer Temperment 1st and foremost (the Love bug factor).

Oh, Sorry I'm rambling on, Saturday morning, not coffee yet.  Gotta FIX that now ! ! ! ! :) :)

Breeders charge what they think they can get.

Puppies I sold with restricted registration were priced the same. However if there is a "color of the day" or a pup in some way different from its siblings--perhaps fatter and therefore more snuggly--and a breeder thinks someone will pay more, the pup could be priced higher.  Also, hard to believe, there are some buyers who want the higher priced pup thinking they are getting something better.  I priced my pups according to what other breeders in my comparable position were selling their pups. A backyard breeder afraid to be stuck with a pup might ask less. Some breeds are easier to evaluate quality at 8-12 weeks. Bulldogs change so much that I feel until they are actually in the ring and given points you have no guantee how they will turn out.

Disagree...

Millers charge as  much as they think they can get.  Reputable breeders price their puppies according to what other reputable breeders are pricing their puppies at in their area.    I don't think just because you might lower a price on a puppy makes one a BYB.  You may hold onto a puppy until it is older to determine show potential and then ask a lower price if the puppy doesn't turn out because let's face it most people want 8/9 week old puppies.

Just because someone has lots of money doesn't make them the best home, infact the rich probably make some of the worst homes.

I'm no expert

Maybe the tri-color is all the rage, but in the breeding and show I'm not so sure.

I think a breeder can tell some things about a pup like jaw size and shape over all head size.

But I'd say the highest priced pup in the litter won't necessarly grow up to be the best dog....for show or breeding, as there are too many unknowns till the pup grows and ya see. Like movement for example.

I've read of folks selling a prospect when it didn't meet their ideas of what they want in their kennals, or for show, after a couple year of effort put into the dog.

I wouldn't expect a show kennel to sell me their best prospect for any price.

Here is a pic of Buddy I took yesterday

Most breeders charge the same price for all their puppies

Some breeders will charge a little more for show prospect puppies. I have seen websites of the puppy millers with multiple prices.  The more expensive pups are usually what they consider to be rare pups. An exotic color, a blue eyed pup, or a miniature. Of course, any breeder who produces a."rare" pup is not a breeder I'm interested in.

Don't buy into this

Reputable breeders charge the same price fror a puppy and don't charge a different price because of color or what ever.  If they are they are millers IMO.  I would never buy from someone who is selling puppies like this.  Also most breeders do not take deposits until the litter is about 6/ wks if at all.  They make sure the puppies have their well puppy check first, to make sure they are healthy.

A breeder may charge a little extra and have co-ownership contracts for show potential puppies...but I would never advise a person who just wants a pet to even consider this type of contract.  You should only enter a co-ownership with someone you trust and have the exact same philosophy about showing, breeding and raise the dog.  And you should know the person well.

Blue eyes, tri-color, rare colors are all breeders that don't care about this breed...only the bucks they are making.  You should never pay more then $2,500 - $3,000 for a pet puppy depending on the area you live in.  If you are then you are getting sucked in by snow job.  Take your money and find a breeder that is reputable.

Also ... never buy a puppy on  Mastercard or Visa.   Money hungry sob's ruining this lovely breed.  These people (I can't call these scumbags breeders) are also not health testing.

Answering your questions directly

within 1 litter you have 8 Pups - 4 males and 4 females - I can understand a price difference between the sexes - but from there what makes 1 pup more or less expensive ? I guess it depends on their coloration and markings -  NO ... TYPICALLY IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE THE SEX...PUPPIES IN A LITTLE ARE ALL PRICED THE SAME...UNLESS YOU HAVE A SHOW POTENTIAL PUPPY THAT YOU MIGHT PRICE A LITTLE HIGHER.  PERSONALLY I DON;T DO THIS.  ALL MY PUPPIES SOLD FOR THE SAME PRICE,  EVEN SURI SHO IS MAJOR POINTED.

but what is most preferred? least preferred? When a breeder sees a newly born pup, (all are equally healthy) which pup brings the feeling of 'We just got a greating looking one because (insert reason here).  BREEDERS NEVER PICK A PUPPY WET FROM COLOR.  YOU MAY HAVE AN IDEA THAT YOU LIKE A CERTAIN PUPPY, BUT THEY CHANGE SO MUCH AND YOU HAVE TO BE OPEN TO WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE AT 5 WKS, 7 WKS, 10 WKS.  A BREEDER WILL NEVER KEEP A SHOW POTENTIAL PUPPY ON JUST COLOR OR MARKINGS.  IT IS THE PUPPIES CONFIRMATION, SUITABILITY TO THE STANDARD AND MOVEMENT.  YOU CAN'T EVEN DETERMINE MOVEMENT UNTIL THE PUPPY IS ABOUT 7 WEEKS.  HEAD, WIDE SET EYES, SQUARE SHAPE, WIDE JAW IS IMPORTANT IN A WET PUPPY...BUT ALL THAT CAN CHANGE.

I know this 'Tri-color' is the current rage, and it isnt a good thing.  NO, BLACK IS VERY UNDESIRABLE.  A BROWN NOSE IS A DISQUALIFICATION. THESE GREEN AND YELLOW EYES ARE JUST HORRIBLE, THEIR EYES SHOULD BE VERY DARK BROWN, BLACK.  THESE "RARE" COLORS WILL ONLY CAUSE CONCERN DOWN THE ROAD FOR BREEDERS, JUST ANOTHER THING YOU HAVE TO DEAL WITH IN TRYING TO BREED TO TH STANDARD.

MONEY IS THE SIMPLE ANSWER.  A REPUTABLE BREEDER PRICES THE LITTER THE SAME, WITH THE POSSIBLE EXCEPTION OF A POTENTIAL SHOW PUPPY.  THESE ARE PUPPY MILLERS TRYING TO SQUEEZE AS MUCH OUT OF THE CONSUMER AS THEY CAN.  IF YOU PAY THESE PRICES YOU IMO ARE AN IDIOT.  FIND A BREEDER THAT IS BREEDING TO THE STANDARD, SHOWING, HEALTH TESTING AND HAS A CONCERN FOR TEMPERMENT.   THESE MILLERS TAKE MONEY OUT OF THE POCKETS OF REPUTABLE BREEDERS WHO ARE DOING THE BREED A SERVICE, THE MILLERS ARE DOING THIS BREED A DISSERVICE.  THEY DON;T CARE ABOUT ANYTHING BUT HOW MUCH THEY CAN MAKE, THAT HAVE NO REGARDS FOR THE BREED OR THE DOGS.

Now that makes sense !

Deb THANK YOU so much - I didnt think alot of it made sense, until you say 'Millers do this - - -'      where a R.B. (Rep. Breeder) Would not.

I guess that is a good way to make a distinction at a glace :) :)

Rick
