Does anyone else get tired of "how much did she cost?" Seriously? Would someone ask you how much your ring cost? OR better yet, would they ask how much it cost to adopt a child? I get asked this all the time, and if it is people I know thats one thing, but from total strangers it really pisses me off. I am going to start saying something like "Less than the amount of taxes I spend for the goverment to hand out welfare and workers comp" YEAH that's going to be my line from now on LOL

Love it...
good reply!
Quincy is 10 and I'm interested in what people are paying now,
but I don't ask.
You can expect to pay....
In the neighborhood of $2,500 depending on your location.
In Washington State
they are $2000-$3000, and MANY are puppy mills.
We bought our baby Kippah from Oklahoma, a reputable breeder and former Vet Tech --with great references from her clients. She had two large litters this summer and actually lowered the price (because of the economy) she wanted to have the babies get homes before they got too old. Her's ranged from $1200-$1800 and they are papered and vet checked and chipped, with a 1 yr heath guarentee.
The other thing I noticed is that people often look at my hands for jewlery when I have her..like they are looking for a big rock. I actually dont have a huge rock, I have a fairly rare stone (natural Alexanderite) and small diamonds, and it is funny to see the expression on their face, like they think I am rolling in money and MUST have a 12 carot rock on my hand. People are so stupid. We are far from monitarily rich, but we have Wealth beyond measure in our love of our Bully

There's several good breeders in Washington
In fact, I bought a puppy from Olympia because it was out of a stud I greatly admired. I live in Arkansas and flew out to pick him up.
Ive got to remember that one!
I hear this every time I take PollyAnna some where...Im really gonna get it with the new puppy too!

Yes I'm tired too:(
Stranger= I don't want to be nosy but how much your dog cost?
Nice owner = :0
Stranger= I know they have a lot health problems too!
Nice owner = :0
Health Problems Statement --- Irrates me more
then the money questions. Because they all don't have health problems. If you by a puppy mill puppy from breeders that have no regard for health, temperment, breed standard and health testing then you get what you pay for. Testing doesn't mean they will all be healthy...but it is a good start and if buyers would at least add health testing to their list of requirements when purchasing a puppy it will be very beneficial to the breed in the future.
I agree. So inappropriate to even discuss someone else's money
to begin with...let alone how your bully is PRICELESS :)

Tell them "How I learned to mind my own business."
So I was walking down the street and I heard a group of people behind a tall board fence chanting... 13....13....13....13
And I couldn't see over, as the fence was too tall but I saw a small crack in the fence and peaked through to see what was going on.\,
And some idiot poked me in the eye with a stick......
And they all started saying.........14....14....14....14
Mean people still suck
Yes......very annoying
I don't mind if it is someone asking about the breed and are interested in getting a puppy. Don't ask just for the sake of being nosey.
That's interesting
I was quoted $3,500 - $4,000 recently. Of course, that's in Canada, and everything here is more expensive!!
Oops, that meant to respond to Jacinda above
Oopsy.
$2,500 is average in Washington State
as well.
5,000 in Hawaii--
ouch

It really depends on where you buy the puppy
And, it depends on the breeder. I've paid $2,500 for my last three and they were show prospects.
It also depends on full or limited registration. If you ever decide you are ready for another I can put you in contact with a good breeder. Of course, you would have fly down here.
Washington State
I find that interesting that you refer to Washington State breeders as puppy mills. I would be very interested in who you contacted that you feel is a puppy mill. Of course a private message is fine. Just curious how you came to your conclusion that MANY breeders in Washington State are puppy mills. I know a lot of breeders in Washington that are certainly not puppy mills and produce some lovely puppies.
I would like to know too since this is the area I intend on
searching for Fatboy's sister.
Fatboy aka Stinky :)
Doesn't Bother Me! All you have to tell them is the
average a puppy would cost in your area. No need to tell how much you paid. They are really just curious I believe.
It is annoying to a point
If someone is geniunely interested in getting a bulldog, then I give them a range of what I saw when I went looking so that I don't have to give an exact amount. If someone is just being nosey, then I tell them that I paid more than you would for your average breed. So far I haven't had many people ask me but Jack hasn't been any where other than the vets and Petsmart. He does ride in the car alot but doesn't get out (he's never alone in the vehicle, he just tags along when I'm dropping and picking up my daughter from school).
Nakina
Yeah it's kinda getting on my last...
If I can tell that the person really want's a bully or cant stop petting him. I tell them I paid $3000 and he is worth that twice over. But if it is some nose stuck up in the air "I would never pay that much" kind of person. I say "$3000 but the next TWO I want are $3500 EACH!!" :)
How about... Adoption fee was $100 at the local rescue ?
That'll prolly get their attention ? and may peak some interest in older pups? *Fingers crossed* :)
Last steps taken May 26, 2014 -- Been rolling along ever since . . . .
I've tried going thru a Rescue
At one of the Rescues out here in the West. There was a lovely boy, missing an eye with a few other medical problems, nothing too serious. I could barely get a reply, then found out that the boy was later "adopted" to a friend of the foster mom. She didn't even have the common courtesy to let me know. Found out later from their website after repeatedly trying to contact her via email to see status and answer any questions she may have had. Now I wonder why even try thru them again. Figure, why bother. So, I keep an eye on one for sale.
They have had several that I thought I could help, now I'm leery of even trying. I took Winston, 30 pounds (at the very least), mild spina bifida, and nursed him back to health. Since daughter and family bought a house and moved, taking Winston with them (I originally got him for her, she so wanted a bully), I've so badly wanted to share my home with one that truly needed us. So far, It's just me and my boxer, Cash. He misses his buddy.
RE: Washington Breeders
Sorry to make such a broad statement about Washington breeders.......I DETEST it when other people say things so broad when it is only based on a small portion of the facts........and yet there I do it myself.
My experience in finding a healthy puppy in Washington was like this:
Once we were ready to get one I could not find alot available in WA state, or Oregon. I especially could not find any in Central or Eastern WA. What I did find was not good. One was in Spokane and he wanted puppies picked up at 6 weeks, and charged a $500 weekly rate for every week after that. NO WAY. Another was very close to me, in WAPATO, I went there to visit and they all lived in cages I am sure, he brought me ONE adult female and told me the others were all feeding.....I think he picked the healthiest as the show dog and the others I bet were in horrible shape. The puppies smelled of Pinesol, I really think they either wiped them down to get rid of smell, or cleaned the kennel and didnt let it dry. Once I started asking questions the owner all of a sudden had to leave, so asked me to leave as well. Other conversations with other breeders did not give me a good feeling of breeders in the East side..............
AND I was not patient enough to wait a few months for a good one to be available from the west side.

sooooooooooooooo obnoxious
i say "if you have to ask, you wouldnt understand"
Silverback's Immaculate Interception, "James"
Doesn't bother me...They want to know if they can afford one.
I'll tell them I was 11 years ago, but I'll tell them it was $1800. However if it bothers you, just let them know what the average price is for one in your area.
Not polite to ask, however......
I think that if people ask, tell them, but also make sure to tell them that bulldogs often have health issues that are expensive to deal with. Better that people know what they are getting into than all of a sudden having owners who can't afford to take care of their dogs.
Most of the time when I get
Most of the time when I get that question it comes following something like, "I've always wanted a bulldog!" I feel like the people who ask that are asking because they love bulldogs themselves, and want to have one -- but aren't sure what to expect to pay for a purebred dog. So, I tell them, and then I also tell them to look into breed rescue, which is a lot less expensive, but you'd still get a great dog.
So, no...I don't mind. I feel like it's just part of educating people who may someday be bully owners themselves.
I agree with all you say,
I also tell them to look into rescue and I tell them the website. I really don't expect them to remember the website but it give them the idea that they are available.
Oh, I hate that and other comments too
When asked "how much did he cost?" I just say, "If you have to ask the purchase price, you cannot afford one." Then I tell them about all his vet bills to date and that he came from a very responsible, ethical breeder. That usually scares them off. If I am really pushed, I get on my pedestal and do the lecture about necessary research, puppy mills, backyard breeders etc. I have enlightened many who just think they are cute and plan on getting one. I do not want those people buying a bully, so try to talk them out of it. You can tell the difference in people who are truly caring and those who impulsively would go and buy.
I also hate the comment about health issues because of "INBREEDING!" Simple ignorance. I suppose one cannot teach the course while standing in PetSmart.
I make sure to mention my bully is worth very little $$$ as he is pet quality, very small and neutered. (no stealing my boy)
It doesn't bother me....
I am in the- they just want to know what a bulldog costs- line of thinking. I DO get bothered by 'are you going to breed her" but if someone asks how much she cost I usually tell them what to expect to pay for a bulldog- around $2000-2500 for a pet.
Cathy and Audrey
I just say, "I didn't buy, I rescued."
That usually stops people in their tracks about the "cost" of bullies. :)
Shannon and Winston :)
My swimming bully buddy!
Truly awesome response!!
Way to go!

all the time
i really dont mine. i just think if you have to ask! you can't afford one. i let people know it's not what they cost. it's what you are going to spend over their life time and if that bother you then this is not the breed.
