Question, the vet wants to use Ketamine/ Azepromazine for her spay, is this okay? I have heard mixed opinions and really really nervous. My dad is taking her while I am in nursing school and I am going crazy. Also, my dad will be taking his bully Bella at the end of the month to the same vet so I am wanting to make sure this is the right thing. I can not go through loosing another four legged baby this year....thanks for any info
ABSOLUTELY NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please read this! Absolutely no ACEPROMAZINE. Isoflourene is the choice for an anesthetic. I am sure you will get many more responses to your request from the others on this board. Does the vet you are using do surgical procedures routinely on bulldogs? If he says he does I would hesitate to believe him.
Please take this advice, especially about the ACEPROMAZINE (also called "Ace") from someone who caused the death of our first beloved bully after giving him a single dose of Ace. Our bully was referred to an opthalmologist who ordered the Ace to be given before his next exam. Without checking with our bully vet, I gave him the single dose. Titan died within a half hour of that dose. That was 8 years ago and I still suffer that guilt. Please do not allow yourself to be placed in the same position!!!!
Maggie Porkchop and Bubba
Our first bully died as well
From anaesthesia when being neutered. Please insist on no ACE. If the vet can't use isufluorane, find another vet.
Thanks for asking the question!!
Phoebe is also scheduled..
to be spayed in Sept so I am really really glad you asked this question. I have already phoned my vet to see what they use and they do use the inhalant that is being recommended here- isofloruomine (sp). They do give a first mixture of ketamine and valium to relax the dog and then the other one once intubated. Does this sound ok?
That sounds right
ACE is the one to stay away from.
Yes - My vet uses Propofol as an induction then Isoflurane
Then tube should stay in until they are fully awake and someone should be with them at all times, they should never be left unattended until they are fully awake. This is the problem with most vets that don't attend to bullies. They will leave them unattended then return to a distressed dog and they may have already pulled the tube.
I do not leave my dog overnight with a vet unless they are monitored around the clock. I would rather they be home with me so I can watch them.
No way, not for a bully.
Dave
No ACE
Isoflurane is what most bully vets use.
NO ACE.
DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO USE ACE. Only Isoflurane or Sevoflurane.
Amy and Sophia
Thank You!
Even though we are waiting until spring to neuter Rugby, I had never heard about ACE until today! I just emailed myself all of the information passed on through this post to ensure I go in there with these demands... thanks everyone!
ACE....THANKS FOR THE REPLIES
Well, Daisy was scheduled at our spay and nueter clinic for September 4. When I asked what they would use and was told the ACE, I questioned it and they got down right Hateful. Needless to say, I canceled it and will save the extra money up to get her fixed with out regular vet., Pleas dont yeall at me for using our Humane society spay and neuter clinic, my husband had lost his job and at this time 400 was alot to come up with, but now I will find a way to get the money together for Daisy's best interest. I thnak you all for your replies.
On another note, it totally amazed me that the Humane Society got hateful and hostile when I asked what they use and why they use it. They told me their vet knew how to handle dogs and that it was fine to use on brachiocephalic animals.....I have now lost any heart that I had to help them when they are hurting animals.....scarey thought
