competitive obedience

Hi everyone!  Just wondering if any of you are active in obedience.  Vern & I are in our third obedience class through our Kennel Club and I don't mean to brag but he's really quite good....and we're having a lot of fun taking the classes.  Wondering if any of you participate - if many bulldogs are active - and would like to learn a bit more.

I remember when I showed my Spinone many of the conformation shows were held in local fairgrounds and sometimes it was very hot.  Are AKC obedience trials held in similar locations (that wouldn't be good for a bulldog)?  Any information would be welcome.

Thanks!

Yes ... Not me but there

are several active in the obedience world that post on the forum.  Jennifer w/Dixie (whom she just lost) was very active and had her CD, CDX and Rally titles I do believe.  Of course there is also Cheryl and Gabe, from my part of the country and he has more titles then his registered name.  I think he still needs 1 leg to finish his Utility title.

I have only put a CD title on a Schnauzer many years ago.   I keep saying someday I'll do more with my bulldogs.  Kohl does a pretty mean SIT. LOL!

Heat is an issue, unfortunately.  Luckily in our area the summer months are not too hot so there are plenty of opportunities to finish those titles without too much concern for the heat.

Have fun, it is really great those that show the world that our bulldogs are not stupid.

Hi Vern & Theresa!

So great to see other bully owners getting into obedience and other performance events with their dogs...we have a group on Yahoo! where we share ideas, questions, brags, etc. at Bulldog_Performance@Yahoo!Groups.com You'll have to request membership and get approved, then join in! There are some great folks in the group with lots of experience in obedience, rally, agility, tracking, coursing, flyball, etc...and many who are just starting out. There's also a page I helped put together here on this site (the link to the page is www.BulldogPerformance.org ) with descriptions/photos of a variety of dog events (though there have been a few changes since we did this--it's still pretty accurate and there are links to the AKC page for more info, too)

Feel free to email me with questions, too:

THANK YOU!

Thanks so much Cheryl - I looked (briefly) through the performance site and there is a lot of information - after work I'll spend more time on there.

I really appreciate the information - our current obedience instructor has been suggesting that we move on to the next level and I really appreciate your information - she has Golden Retrievers - and I suspect the sport has different challenges for our rotund/short-legged pals.

Give Gabe a "high-five" from Vern and I - we really enjoy your super-star bulldog!

Will do, and...

I am going to be putting up some in-depth descriptions of the various dog sports (especially obedience) that we've participated in with lots of photos to help demonstrate the different execises, equipment, etc. It'll be up on Gabe's site in the coming months--still a work in progress!
