Our vet decided our Lu Lu is a bit plush,,,,! 69 pounds... He's right.they said we should cut back to one cup of food a day...???.? My other piggy is only 48 pounds and perfect, Lu Lu Is 8 though and on the lazy side.... ii thing that one cup sounds horrible. Anyone have any comments..? What do you all do? By the way we use royal canin for bullys cause it really makes their coat nice and helps with achy joints. Thanks for feedback
One cup a day isn't much..
does she seem hungry? I would feed her 1/2 to 3/4 twice a day and add some cooked green beans to help fill her up. Personally, I don't like Royal Canin, it has a lot of grains and fillers in it. We use grain free food and a grain free fish based food (salmon) would be less calories for her also. It's hard to get weight off them when they don't want to walk, we have that problem with our Chester.
I agree, doesn't really sound like much to me
Even if she isn't active.
doesn't sound like alot...but
doesn't sound like alot...but try to keep her active...my archie was 57lbs and he looooooved food!!!
we juat had to control his intake...but i didn';t deprive him either!
smoochies the scrunchy faces
We feed....
Tucker about 2 3/4 cups of food a day(split into two feedings). If we only gave him one i'm sure i'd be getting that "i'm starving!" look from him. We use the food "Now". The protein level is 26% i think and the main protein in it is duck. It's also a grain free food. Not cheap though.
Tucker is two and weighs about 67 pounds but he's not overweight and we try and keep him pretty active. He actually loves exercise. I always joke and say he didn't read the bully handbook!
We did feed Tucker Royal Canin and we had no issues. I just decided to switch him one day to something with more natural ingredients and less filler. IMO and I know people won't agree is that if you have your dog on something that isn't causing any issues and that it's eating then don't switch them. In this case though weight is an issue so maybe a switch is worth a try. I know once some dogs are on something for a long time they might not eat anything else.
Good luck!

I kind of agree; if it ain't broke don't fix it
Especially with all the issues these dogs can have with food. If she's doing well on it, I wouldn't change.
How much are you feeding now?
Agree with adding Green Beans as a filler. I recommend getting the frozen ones in a large bag, besure to rinse them in water to remove extra salt. If you get canned get the low sodium and rinse as well.
Royal Canine is really not a very quality food, but if she does well on it I'm not one that is inclined to change foods just because. I believe in don't fix what isn't broken. But if you do change try a Senior food.
Then start adding a little exeercise into her routine. Even if she can only go 1 block everyother day. Walk in the am if you live where it's hot. The concrete holds heat and is the coolest in the morning.
