Chewing

Gus is 7 1/2 months old. He has been very well behaived bully but all of the sudden has started chewing our drywall and wooden steps. I read somewhere that they can start chewing everything when the testosterone starts flowing. I take him for daily walks and our house is full of toys for him to play with along with my 3 yr old bully. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any great toys to give him for this stage?

Is he fixed? have you tried Bitter Apple ?

We use Bitter Apple to somewhat of a success - they hate the taste of it, but you have to catch them chewing, then spray it,  but you have to re-apply also :(

Most of our dining room chairs have those 'Hummm is this anygood to - Toofy Marks - More Toofy Marks - to chew on?'

Nyla Bones are a dream when they are going through the chew stages - Just keep shoving it into his mouth every time he is chewing something he isnt suppose to chew on -

Is he Kenneled trained? like when you arent home ?

exactly!

Bitter Apple

Nyla bones (never raw hides)

And KENNEL trained.  If he is not already it is never too late.  Kippah does not chew on anything, BUT she is not given an opportunity to do so either!  If we are hot home she is safe in her kennel--and as a bonus my house is safe from her

Thanks

I give him Nyla bones, he loves them. He hasnt been in a kennel for several months now. I guess I should kennel him again untill he goes through this.

I think it has alot to do with him not being neutered as this behavior has just started. Thanks!

Puppies are just 4 legged children :)

If given the chance to be naughty, they will be, and if they get away with being naughty once... they will keep it up given the chance -  sorta like pushing their boundries -

In the kennel while you are away, keeps the puppy safe from the house, and the house safe from the puppy :)

Don't think it

has anything to do with being neutered.  He is still a puppy and this breed are big chewers.  Those jaws are changing, much like teething, so they need stuff to chew on.  I would suspect it more has to do with boredom.

All of my males have been intact until at least a year old, Norbert was about a year when he was neutered, MacKenzie was 2 yrs when neutered and kohl is 18 months and still intact.  I have never had one of my dogs destroy my house from chewing.  MacKenzie...who is 8 yrs and a saint has had free run of the house since he was 6 months.  The others I don't trust for 10 hours alone.  I prefer to have them safe and my house not destroyed so I crate them.

Mine chew

the heck out of Nylabones (not the edible ones) and Raw Beef Marrow bones.  I like the Primo bones that are raw frozen and come 6 to a package for about $10.00 bucks.  My dogs are big chewers (on bones and toys) .  Bulldogs jaws are changing and they need bones to chew on.

If you can't watch them then they should be crated or expenned so they don't destroy your home.
