Once cherry eye always cherry eye?
Kippah had her first cherry eye last night. It came about after she was rough housing with Gabe. I should have taken care of it last night, but she fell asleep after playing and I let her sleep through the night. It was gone this morning but then came back this afternoon. Imassaged it and it is gone again. But I am wondering if this is going to go on all the time, is it something that pops up (or out) while they are growing and may grow out of it?
I know I could post this on medical, but since it is not something super serious, at this point, I thought I could post it here.
THANKS

Maybe
I've only experienced cherry eye with one of my dogs. Morgan popped a cherry eye when she was 7 months old. I massaged it back in and it popped back out the next day. I again massaged it in and it hasn't popped out since. She is 7 years old.
So, it really depends on the dog. Some dogs will need surgery and some won't.
thx
that is how I am choosing to believe this will pan out. She is just 6 months old, her head is still growing...I choose to consider this a 'growing pain' and not worry about it......

When Dudley was about 6
When Dudley was about 6 months old he developed cherry eye in both eyes. I learned how to press/message the gland back in, and for a while I would have to do it several times a day. Eventually it becames several times a week, and then over time less and less often. He is now 6 years old and it rarely ever occurs (perhaps a couple of times a year) typically a result of rough play.
I suspect surgery is performed far more often than needed. If the gland is difficult to replace, it's likely because it is inflamed as a result of an infection or irritation.
hi, I have been dealing with this for years with Bella, at first
I could massage it back in, but then that stopped working but because it does go back in on it's own, (sometimes after a nights sleep) the vet doesn't want to put her through the surgery unless it is out all the time, hers is never a huge buldge but just her third eye lid flipped insdie out, I don't even try to massage it anymore as it never works, but sometimes it's out for a few days then will go in for a while.. good luck.. I love when bella wakes up and it's in b.c. it's a little creepy and she looks so good when both eyes are normal.. lol..
