Bulldogs a laid back breed? Noooooooooooo Olive is pure spitfire adrenalin! She wants to play catch 24-7 and will not quit until you put her in her crate and then she is fussy! SHe is 5 months now and no signs of slowing down! PollyAnna was a nut until she was about 2 years old. Are a Bulldog puppies this way? An inquireing mind wants to know? :-)
Gizmo's 2nd birthday - it was like a light switch flipped
She was always really active, but we celebrated her 2nd birthday - and now she's a couch potatoe - except for the evenings, she has become VERY Demanding - barking at the fridge, DEMANDING her Yogart - even when we give it to her BEFORE she starts to bark, she still goes bonkes (this behavior has been going on for about a week now - and its not one we want her to keep up.) But age 2 seems to be the 'time to mellow'

Haha
She goes to fridge to bark for her nightly yogurt... what kind of yogurt do you give her?
Cupcake had vaginitis (not sure if it was puppy or adult vaginitis, as it started AFTER she was spayed.) I tried everything, took her to vet, got her on oral antibiotics, still didn't clear up, went back to vet, got her on an ointment antibiotic, still didn't clear up, just started keeping it super clean with baby wipes after every pee, didn't help, and finally resorted to what I thought was an old wives tale by putting a tablespoon of plain yogurt in her food every day for 2 weeks. And VOILA! Cleared up and hasn't been back in 3 months! So yogurt really is good stuff!

We try to find Probiotics (sp?) or Greek
If those two are unavailable, then we go with the old standby or regular plain old unsweeted unflavored (YUCK!) Yogurt she LOVES IT!

Rugby Varies...
Rugby is also five months and I think he is actually pretty even keel. I take him for a long hour walk in the morning, he walks again with our dog walker at around three, and then we are home by 6:30-7 and that is when he is really energetic. Mike is definitely more of his rambunctious play partner so they will wrestle, run around, go play in the park for a couple hours and that usually drains him. I guess you can consider Olive's energy a good excuse for getting exercise??? ;-)
Chef D is pretty active and
Chef D is pretty active and he is 5 months also. We now take him to doggie daycare 1-2 times a week and it's made a big difference. He plays ALL.DAY.LONG When he gets home he is exhausted for a good day or 2 after.
Chef D is funny. When we go on walks, to the bar or out to eat he is really, really laid-back. He just sits there, lets people pet him. Even if there are other dogs he just chills (after the initial "let me sniff you butt" routine). As soon as we get home he becomes a maniac. He wants to play fetch, jumps all round and is very active.
Sometimes we take him out just so he will chill out.
Chef D's Mug Shot
He sounds so much like me Stella was
A "mella fella" most of the time, especially when he's out and about. And then a wild man indoors.
Stella hated going outside her whole like (unless with a bunch of other dogs she could hang with). But get her in the door, she would tear over to her toy basket and want to rumble!
Weird dogs :)
Onslow was a crazy puppy
and he didnt slow down until about 3. He still has his spurts at 5. =)
Kippah has two speeds
Kippah has two speeds, Maniac and Snorefest.
She runs and fights and throws her Jollyballs all over the hard wood floor until we cannot even watch tv becasue it is so loud. She gets the Bostons all fired up, and then when she is done..she is done. Plop on the floor and snoring within 3 minutes.
Lazy, docile, calm, quiet...............NOPE not in my house

lol...my archie was like that
lol...my archie was like that too...he was energetic right up until his passing...
but when he was tired he just dropped like a brick...but at the sound of
a refrigerator door opening or the crackle of a bag and he was up like a rocket...lol
Violet
Violet is 2 1/2 and still a maniac! In fact, I get worried if she lays down before 9:30pm....I keep having to remind myself that she should be settling down soon, otherwise I drive myself crazy thinking she is sick if she naps in the evening!
Magic, my Frenchie, is almost 7 and still as active as Violet.
Ouch
Ive got my hands full with Olive! LOL

Every bulldog is different...
They do tend to exhibit lazy behaviors and can be hardheaded about things they don't want to do. And I've noticed mine (10 months and 4 months) ate super focused on certain things and there is just nothing you can do to distract them (like if we go to dog park Cupcake is hellbent on chasing down every dog she sees running and bullbaiting them, and nothing I do can take her eyes off her goal.) They seem to have bursts of energy out of nowhere, like after a pee outside, they will just start sprinting in zigzags all around the yard like they heard a noise or got bit in the butt by a bee. Odd behavior that is just so funny!
Every bulldog is different. Cupcake (the girl) is the older one, but even since she was 2 months old, she has spells where she just likes to lay around and sleep. And Biscuit (the boy) never seems to get tired, the only time he sleeps is in his crate at night. The rest of the day he is just going, chewing and running and picking fights with Cupcake. They wear me out. For instance, today is my day off, but it hardly feels like a day off when you're watching puppies!
Doggy daycare once a week is a good idea. Bulldogs are very social and if you don't socialize them they can get territorial and aggressive. So I've heard. I started sending mine to daycare once a week and they love it.
I'm sure as some of the others say, once they get older they will calm down a bit. I sure hope so. I thought mine would calm down after her spay like I had read she would, but nope, she's bouncing around and strutting her stuff and just sassier than she's ever been.

Amy and Sophia
Jax
is 18 months and we have noticed that he has started to calm down. He still has his zoomy moments when the livingroom becomes a NASCAR track, but for the most part he is settling.
