Biting

Hi,

We have a male Bulldog, Henry, who is 16 months old. Recently, when taking him for a walk on grass, he sniffs seemingly random parts of the grass with interest. After a whille he will quickly try to run away. The lead stops him from running away & then he starts to attack the feet of the person who is walking him. We have found no way to stop him doing this and he continues to do it until he gets back home making it very difficult to move! Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening and better still a way of preventing it? Thanks in advance.

Well our boy does this

He does this sometimes when on a walk or when in the yard. He also does it when we are wearing rubber or thick boots. We think tucker does it when he wants to play, wants to get our attention. We typically stop walking and correct him him with a firm no and sometimes my husband will hold him physically for 5 or 10 seconds(not aggressively). We also other than the correction, try not to give it attention so no eye contact with him or affection. Good luck.

I agree, don't make it like a game for him...

If you jump or move to get away or make lots of motions or vocals, your dog thinks you are playing a fun game. Try this...when you are walking, don't talk to your dog or make eye contact. If the behavior begins, give a firm NO, put him in a sit, and quit making a fuss of the behavior. He needs to stop being encouraged to think it is a good game. Make him sit, stay, and wait until he does it before you move. Do not talk to him other than "no, sit or stay". And don't jump around to get away from him, that gives his prey drive a jump start and he might think he has you on the run!
