Hello Bully Lovers!
Quick question, our breeder says that bullys should only be fully bathed twice a year and I wanted to get others opinions as we have been giving "sponge" type baths to Rugby but he is a puppy and now that we are taking him outside, he gets dirty fast (could be his enjoyment of running in leaves)!
Obviously we don't want to irritate his skin in any way, but any thoughts on this topic would be great...
Thanks!
Alaina
I bathe my guys every other week...
we have a walk in shower with a hand held shower head and they just follow me in. I use a very mild oatmeal shampoo and make sure to rinse really well. Fish oil is good to keep coats looking healthy.

honestly archie was very sensitive under his folds....so it was difficult trying to get him to sit still-luckily he absolutely loved his groomer so i would try n clean what i could every 2 days myself ,but i would take him every 2 weeks along w/a through clean of his folds he was also bathed...he used a vey gentle shampoo and conditioner on him so i wasn't worried...i was always told he was the cleanest looking dog in the neighborhood and anywhete we went walking!lol
I bathe every other week
About monthy for Gizmo
We brush her (Maybe not as much as we should) and have the groomer drimel her nails when she's in there - we basically take her in for a bath when her nails get loud on the hardwoord floors - once the weather breaks, we'll be taking our wanks, and the road/sidewalks help keep them shorter.
On average I would say Monthly
Last steps taken May 26, 2014 -- Been rolling along ever since . . . .
twice a year? I would bath
twice a year? I would bath mine every month at least, never had any skin/coat problems.
I bath mine once a month
We are outdoor people never know where we ard going to be. Loulou love to try to se or play in the waters around Austin. I always jump right in there with her. Sometimes she gets a bath every weekend. I don't mine doing it myself really don't trust anyone with my babies. I give them fish oil pills so I don't have problems with their coats. Nail s on the other hand is a nightmare. She freaks out when she see the clippers. Try to bite everyone even her vet died not want to cut them without putting her under. Like I said a nightmare. Bubba my American Bulldog will hold his paw up there for me to clip his. I hit Loulou when she was 14 months I don't know what happen with her. But I think someone hurt her before.
Karonelaine
Kofi gets bathed every two
or three months. I have never bathed her more than that, and sometimes not that often.
depends on the season
weve only had dozer for a little over a year, i noticed that this winter i have only bathed him about once every 4-6 weeks, cause i only really walk him around the block really,(he gets so excited to walk, mixed in with the really cold air hell go into a coughing fit). so hes really not getting too dirty or anything... But this past summer i think we bathed him almost every weekend to every other week, since my husband would take him to the dog park and the harbour , or by the school so he would be stinky from the water or just full of mud!
bathe him myself as soon as he hears the water go on he grabs his jolly ball and jumps right into the tub., i do his nails in there and get everything done, he loves it, he prob in there for a good 15 mins!. i switch between a medicated and a oatmeal. he loves bath time!
Nicole and Dozer
I do it about two or three times a year
Stella is not a "stinky dog" and just doesn't require a bath that often. Unless she gets into something, which is a different story.
Besides, she HATES it and we're both exhausted at the end of each session :)
We only bathe Beatrix a few
We only bathe Beatrix a few times a year, as far as full-on shampoo-and-running-water type baths. She just doesn't seem to need it that often. Otherwise, we just keep clean the bits that need more regular washing with baby wipes.
Every 2 weeks for Emma
She tolerates it but doesn't bound to the tub when it's bath time. She turns her back on me in the tub. Like trying to ignore me. It's quite funny.
We give Fattie a bath every 3 weeks or so.
Depending n how stinky he gets....which can be more or less depending on how much he plays outside.
Fatboy aka Stinky :)
Thank You!
All of your advice was fantastic... I have a feeling he will be in the bathtub more than twice a year, and I didn't even think of the seasons! We got a great organic doggie shampoo from a mom and pop pet shop (the owner has a Frenchie) so we will see how that goes. We want to keep our boy clean!
Dudley and Mabel typically
Dudley and Mabel typically get bathed every couple of months. We wash their paws daily though. Nails are dremeled weekly.
