Lately Fatboy has been starting a bad habbit of barking at his gate. and if the gate is not up against the counter, he barks at the portable fan that's there. He's been doing this non stop, usually around the same time of day. What could be causing this and how do I get him to stop? Before we could distract him with his tire, but now he doesn't even pay attention when it's in our hands. He just stands there and barks. I hate to say it but he's really annoying at times (other times I can just ignore).

attention?
Sounds like he wants your attention, what are you doing when he starts his barking? He has learned if he barks he can get you to stop doing whatever it is your doing at that time of day to bring him a toy and talk with him and play ... they are very smart and know exactly how to get us to cater to them and their needs

we've given him attnetion. we've ignored him. he constantly
barks at that area we stand his gate up against. sometimes I think it's time for him to have a little brother or sister.

what I meant was...
I meant more that to him it might be a game, meaning he knows if he does the barking at that spot, you will stop what your doing and focus on him kind of like a "learned behavior" my first bulldog dog would do that to me and in the beginning it was a great game for her because she knew just what when and how to make me respond ... I finally broke her of it (when I realized what she was doing) she would start the game and I would use noise to distract her (just clapping my hands and telling her quiet) the noise would break her concentration on her game and it seemed to break the cycle.. Might not be the same thing as with Fatboy but it's just a thought.
