anyone else have this computer problem with bdw?

but I see you are still able to get on so thats good.
If You ARE infected with MALWARE - try this
there is a website, that has a free software, that is REALLY good for Malware (The pop ups saying 'You are infected, buy me to clean your system, but when you 'buy it, it takes your money and leaves you still infected)
there is a program that I run on machines that are infected this way - and it cleans them 98% of the time, it does take time, so be patient -
1) http://www.malwarebytes.org/ that is their website, dont be fooled by others - it is a FREE tool called Malwarebytes Ant-Malware -
2) download the program, and run it, it will have to update to the latest virus definitions -
3) exit EVERYTHING (close all of your Browswer windows and any other program that is running
4) run the scan - it make take several hours (dependng on size of hard drive and age of PC
5) when the scan is done, look at the log files, it will say what (if anything) it found
6) REBOOT your pc -
7) RUN the SCAN again - if all is clean - then you want to EMPTY your CACHE and CLEAR ALL COOKIES. and you SHOULD (Fingers crossed) be ok.
**IMPORTANT** if you EVER see a box pop up, telling you that you are infected and to download something, or click here to clean or whatever - DO NOT TOUCH THE BOX - Do NOT hit 'OK Do NOT hit the 'X' in the upper right corner to close it - Go to TASK MANAGER and Close the application that way (Unless you KNOW for sure its from your Anti-Virus Software, I.E. Norton
MALWARE and Virus are a PAIN in the Butt to the regular users, and it takes me some time to clean out some of the nasty buggers - and 'normal' sites are getting infected, so its not like you are somewhere that you shouldnt be - Get a copy of NORTON Anti-Virus - pay the yearly subscription fee - and run it once a week or so.

since it is a work computer,
i don't have administrator access. i have a feeling it is the institution's protection that is detecting something in the site. we will see if it changes next week. thanks for the advice anyway!

I hope it isn't a virus! I know I have had times recently that were a pain to get logged on, I had to come back a couple times to try again before I could get it.
