Ants ants, and more ants!

I do not know what to do. Our place is being overrun by ants. It's never been this bad before. My husband and I live in a duplex; the neighbor's garage is right beneath us. The neighbor uses his garage as his 'man cave', and I have a suspicion they are coming up from his area. They are crawling all over Fatboy. It's so bad in the living room, I had to block off his favorite area because they were all over his blanket. I'm constantly vacuuming, used the gel bait in the areas we think they may be coming in from. Finding their entrance is really hard when they just all over the carpet. And to make it worse, they're finding their way to his incision and anus area.

I don't know what to do. I'm about to burn this place down! What else can I do? We don't want to make a fuss with the neighbor as he comes across as questionable at best. There are a slew of other problems we've had with him and are planning to move out of here anyhow. But in the meantime, what am I missing??

Is there a time you can set off a bug bomb?

Maybe take Fatboy out for a day on the weekend and set off a bug bomb...

Other than that, I just don't know. That must be completely frustrating:-(

I am taking Fatboy to the vet tomorrow for his follow up, but it

won't be an all day trip. It's just me right now as my DH went to Washington for a few days, so I would have to leave Fatboy sitting in the hot car while I cleaned up when we get home. Bombing the house has to wait for another weekend when one of us can watch over the Fats. But since we're in SoCal, I believe a beach day is called for. I've never taken Fatboy to Rosie Dog Beach yet. Looks like next weekend we're headed that way :)

I know how you feel.

We had ants really bad one year.  An exterminator came out and put some stuff in our walls...no issues after that.  You are right they are probably coming for the garage/man cave.

I will have to look into this. And your babies were safe with

the stuff in the walls?

Can you try ant traps?

Also, call an exterminator & ask what you can do that is pet safe, also google and see if there are any home remedies you can use, for some reason I remember someone saying talcum powder along the floors but I could be wrong.

I'm in SoCal also. Rosie's beach is an awesome place.

It was safe for everybody because of it being in the walls nobody dog/human had access to it.

A possible solution.....................????

I don't know if this works or not, but this was posted in a neighborhood site when someone was asking about a reasonable bug guy.  I just read it, so I thought I would pass it along to you.

I HAD ants also for several years and used everything and every bug guy available out there. They eventually kept coming back. I have learned there are TWO kinds of ants -- PROTEIN ants and SUGAR ants. The ONLY thing I've used to get rid of them is taking Borax powdered soap and mixing 1 T Borax with 1 T of peanut butter and 1 T of Borax with 1 T of honey. I take both mixtures and put them separated into a plastic container (Crystal Light ) with holes punched in the top. Outside I put the Crystal Light container in the chain link fence close to the house so dogs/cats don't get to it. On the inside I put them wherever I see them coming in. The first 2 days it will be horrible to look at. They swarm all over it. Then the next day there are less and by the 3rd or 4th day there are NO ants. They take the Borax back to the nest and feed it to the queen, thus killing the whole colony. I have now been ant free for a good 2 years and LOVE it, but every spring I put out new mixtures. Cheap and works!

Yes I've read about borax solutions

I think I will have to try this. It's safe around humans and pets, but is deadly to ants when ingested. Thanks for this! I have a new project within these next few days; Operation Borax. Haha :D

Fatboy's Mom regarding your ant problem.

This is what has worked for me. I tried other methods and that didn't help, and was really discouraged, but this product was quite successful.

I sprayed it inside and outside the house, on areas that the dogs couldn't access.

It also has a manufacturer's satisfaction guarantee.

I'm so sorry that your property is overrun with the ants. The neighbor sounds like a wretched piece of work. Is this a rental property, or do you own it? If it is a rental, I would suggest having your landlord reimburse you for your pesticide expenses.
