Gotta tell you I have ALOT of admiration for you. Your bravery and compassion really shows through your actions. As much as I love the experience of picking Kippah from her litter, and have a baby puppy to cuddle, AND would never trade that for a moment....I also wonder how a rescue experience would be.
God sent you as angels to protect those beautiful bullies!

semi-rescuer
I can't speak for those who are more directly involved, but I have helped pick up a few dogs and transport them for rescue and I do my best to help with phone interviews since I'm kind of in no-man's-land as far as a rescue close to me. It really has been so super rewarding, and as sad and upset as I have been when interacting with the dogs (I have taken in owner surrenders, the sad side of rescue I think)...the pictures of them healthy and happy with their new families makes it so worth it. I cried pretty much the entire drive to St. Louis and back to KC with the first one I helped (he was a deaf, mostly blind 12 year old bulldog whose owner was giving him up, but keeping the 2 year old puppy he had). Recently I saw pictures of him at an "alumni" event, I cried again, but because I was so freaking happy for him! :)
I hope next year to be able to move in to a home and help with fostering since a lot of "owner" surrenders (aka puppy mill breeders giving up on low producers) come from my general area...
Don't be shy about volunteering! I know all the rescues need help from things as simple as working fundraisers and helping take the dogs to vet appointments, to fostering and doing interviews of propsective adopters! :)

My swimming bully buddy!
I've thought the same thing
In fact--I told Joe that when (heaven forbid)are boys are gone I wanted to look into rescue. Once we get through the winter and Jax's knee surgery I want to look into rescues in this area to volunteer.

We've only gotten to do a rescue transport once.
It was such a great experience that I would love to do it again. We picked up an older girl in Columbia, Missouri and drove her to Collinsville, Illinois where she began the last leg of her journey to her foster group in Indiana. Rescuers do amazing work!

i have 5 rescues.....
the experience is like non other...i cant explain the look the dog gives you...when they know their going to be fed every day...when they have a warm dry bed to lay in...when instead of a kick or punch they get a hug and a kiss....when they all pile together becasue they have freinds and bullies like company....when at nite you hear that content snore...and you know thats its been a long long time since any of them ever had a peaceful nite...not filled with worry or discomfort.....
daisy has sb and was adopted at 6 years.....charlie has sb and was adopted at a year....casper has sb and was adopted at 6 months.....henery has sb and was adopted at 12 months..... brutus came to me at 6 years old was mistreated kept outside he's a great dog....
and then their is wilson who i got as a show puppy at 12 weeks.....he has never had a bad day in his life....always had a warm bed...good food...vet care.....
so the rescue experience is like no other......
All of my dogs and all of my horses except my colt are rescues.
I love it. I haven't found one or received one that I would trade for anything. They are the most special in my heart. Very rewarding to see any animal recover from what some of my guys have been through.

You should consider taking a rescue
there's plenty of wonderful dogs waiting for a home and sadly, the supply never ends.
All of my dogs have been "re-barks", I've loved every one of them. We have adopted dogs as young as 2 years old and as old as 14 years old, never regretted a moment.
I keep thinking that someday, I will get myself a puppy. I'll pick the breed, the breeder and the puppy, wonder what that would be like.

I rescued my little girl over a year and half ago and she is the
sweetest thing. She was used for breeding and her "owner" was walking around a petstore trying to give her away. A store employee was able to get a local rescue to take her. We think she was 4-5 years old at the time and boy was she skinny. She is now fat , happy and so appreciative of everything. I also volunteer for the Bulldog rescue and recently just fostered a sweet boy for three months. Rescue is rewarding- I enjoy seeing the transformations and they are so grateful to be loved and cared for. I have always started with a puppy but I have found that you bond and love them just the same as if you raised them. Volunteers and fosters are really needed now as our breed has become so popular. The same applies to the Frenchies.
